All I Want for Christmas Contest 2024! (1 Viewer)

See, I disagree with that both claims, but the latter has already been debunked previously). I recently had the displeasure of trying "the best fried chicken in Batesville, MS" (Mr. Jiffy), both locations of which are in gas stations (NTTAWWT), for the second time, and once again I was quite underwhelmed.

There are a lot of factors that go into fried chicken, not the least of which is turnover of product so the chicken is fresh out of the fryer (although you would think that wouldn't be an issue with "the best" chicken, but I digress). I am also not saying there is anything wrong with chicken that has been sitting around, but that's a different discussion.

Anywhoo - everything else being equal (which of course it isn't) - the thing that dooms gas station chicken is that their displays are enclosed, which effectively steams the chicken (moreso if there are other wet sides in the same case), making it soggy. Grocery store chicken is usually exposed to circulating air in a buffet situation, so if chicken is being replenished, it will have a longer window of staying crispy, making it more likely you will get a superior product.

And Happy New Year!
The preference for gas station over grocery is merely do to the fact that I worked in a grocery store years ago and I know which chicken they use.
Let's just say the "less" fresh selection.
But hey, I'm positive Lakeview only uses the best.

Lol, I'm sure not, but that's fair. I'm sure Mr. Jiffy uses only the best.

Nisey has already come out strongly against wet pie, I can’t imagine wet chicken will be any more preferable

My grandfather raised chickens when I was a kid and we had to pitch in, I was given the job of plucking the feathers, to make plucking the bird easier they dipped them in hot water, it's an odor I wish I could forget.

I'm sure Guido has an imaginative comeback for my reminisce but such is life.

I was ded literally everyday in December, especially once my daughter came home from College Station. She and her mom made it a freakin anthem. :covri:

You didn’t explain about the contest?

OK folks, I am back in business now and still trying to sort out the winners. I you managed a win, please let us know here.
