Analyzing a Top-10 mock draft from PFN (1 Viewer)

Absolutely hate the idea of Dart at 9. Not particularly fond of Barron at 9 either. Skipping over Tetairoa at this spot would be dumb. If not Tetairoa, I’d rather take an OL, Loveland, or trade down (not happening because Loomis).
I’ll just say my stance on Dart has changed a bit. I still would very much prefer a scenario where we trade back into the first round to take Dart if possible rather than at pick 9. However if the Saints really like Dart and know another team is likely to make a run for him, I’d “understand” taking him at pick 9.

I initially watched 2-3 of Dart’s games and found myself wondering why on earth we’d be considering him on day 1. The games I watched were likely some of the worst Dart played all season. I’ve since watched just about every game clip and breakdown I could find on Dart. I now have Dart as my QB2 in this draft behind Ward. I could definitely see him being this years “Bo Nix” as they offer several similarities as far as traits and production with Dart being younger at the time he’s entering the draft.

My perfect scenario if we were to draft Dart is to get a guy like Jeanty, McMillan, or Warren at pick 9 then trade up from pick 40 to grab Dart at the end of round 1.

This is actually really interesting for me to hear, because I went through the same process early January and came to the same exact conclusion. QB2. I got a little laughed at on my posts for stating it, but oh well. Everyone else seems to have finally watched him and is seeing what I saw.

Most, not all but most of the folks that dont want Dart are basing their opinion off of what others are saying (echo chamber) or off of online pre-draft rankings and hype pieces. Same as last year speaking of Nix.

Projecting any player from college to the NFL is hard. Projecting a QB is hard x10.some non-hype film study clips Ive seen and tweets by reasonable scouting type guys (like Rev Deuce for one) seem to see a LOT of quality NFL traits in Dart. Full field reads, not locking eyes on receivers, pocket awareness, scramble drill awareness, mobility (ran very well vs SEC defenses), and throwing accuracy/ ball placememt.

His knocks sound to me like things coaching and developmemt could be able to fix. (footwork, quick release/throwing motion) He has good size but hes not Josh Allen. Can scramble and throw but hes not Mahommes. He can run, but he's not Jackson. Has more of a Burrow or Nix style.

No such thing as a cant-miss QB prospect, but he has a real chance to become a quality NFL starting QB. Somebody will take him in the first round and I wouldnt be surprised if he went half a roumd earlier than most people are projecting him. Id love to trade back and get him, but i almost dont believe he'd be available in the mid to late first round. If Moore wants him, we'd probably have to take him at #9.

Id be fine with that. Im not a scout by any meams, but I trust Kellen Moore to know what he's looking for at QB. If he wants him, then I want him too. If he passes on him, then I pass as well.

My biggest concern with him is that Ole Miss did not run a pro style offense. This means he's going to have a big learning curve over someone like Burrow, Nix or even Cam Ward who came from pro-style offenses. It doesn't indicate whether or not he's more or less likely to succeed in the NFL. But it does mean he shouldn't see the field in year 1 what so ever. Even if Carr got injured.
