Today's read shows how vital year three is for Saints linebacker Pete Werner. I also discuss how the team has continued solid linebacker production regardless of the era and how it relates to Werner possibly being next in line to hold the mantle. Enjoy!!

I respect your right to feel differently Tribune but I sure do think we are indeed thin at linebacker.
Oh, come on.

The team has had 'unproven' LBs, that we had mostly never heard of, as depth for the past few seasons and they've proven to be excellent depth every time. What logical analysis can be applied to comprehensively evidence that anything has changed in this regard?

I continue to think this LB depth uneasiness is just the 'no name recognition' fallacy in action.

I know I’m a nobody, but even Nick agrees. And I view him as a sunshine pumper.

Hopefully you end up being right either way. 😊

I still believe if DD goes down we are in trouble at that position.

Pete Warner has surprised me. When the team first drafted him I was thinking he would be too small and would get manhandled by TE and OL but he has played solid. Has he been AllPro? Not yet, but he has made beacoup plays and I think that we need to start drafting another MLB to groom for Demario...that's my opinion.

Pete is solid however I hope someone else not named Demario Davis surprises me at training camp next month. D' Marco is a guy I'll be focusing on as well.
The Saints are seemingly high on and confident in Jackson and maybe the Vandy rookie — Orji— too. And Baun is kinda an X factor who could suddenly break out the way Hendrickson did. I’m going trust the staff knows what they’re doing and remain hopeful.

Seems like most folks think Werner’s ceiling is no higher than a solid starter, and I think that’s a garbage take.

The only thing that has held Werner back has been injuries.

When healthy, Pete Werner is a tackling machine that ranks among the league leaders. He’s smart and athletic, and an extremely hard worker by all accounts.

I think he absolutely has a chance to take over as the Alpha LB on this team when DD slows down… He may never be DD, but Davis is the best all-around LB the Saints have ever had IMHO.

Who needs to draft an MLB when we have the Jets acting as our pipeline for developing them?

i dont think Werner can play all the LB spots. Your comfortable with him in nickle sets. He dont have enough pop to blow up gaps or disengage once u get a body on him. You want to keep him clean to be chase LB. Hes good at that role. Good drop back, and coverage ability. Hes solid and good. Not Great. Kaden Ellis actually had more physical ability then Werner. Thats prob gonna work out well for Atlanta l.
