Analyzing Pete Werner's Potential and Could He Be Next In Line as the Next Great Saints LB (2 Viewers)

Man, can you imagine that d-line and those 4 all-time great lb'ers paired with this secondary today. Those defenses lacked great corners. The safeties were pretty good with Atkins and Maxie. But Alex molden was awful.

Well, Alex Molden didn't actually play with any of those other guys you mentioned, so that's a little beside the point šŸ˜‰

Dang. You are right. I'm getting old. Memory ain't what it used to be. I could have sworn he was drafted in the late 80's. My bad

Solid is exactly how Iā€™d refer to Pete as well. Also agreed on the rest of your post.

I'm going to agree with Saint Taysom (well said man), the only thing holding Werner back from being great are injuries, I hope he is healthy all year this time around.....I think a ton of folks didn't expect him to be as good as he did and it went against their narrative....

I'm not a Pete Werner stan like most people in this thread, but dude cannot stay healthy to save his life, we definitely need to sign Kwon Alexander ASAP.

This is a joke right? Right?

We took Molden with Eddie George still on the board, I was furious.....especially since RB was a huge need area at the time....Last draft pick under Jim Mora, fitting.....as he quit halfway through Molden's rookie year.....

I think you could be right about injuries holding him back from greatness. Also fail to see how calling a player very good and solid is an insult worthy of clowns and ad hominem responses but itā€™s a sign of the times I guess lol.

Yea, I was sitting here reading all these ā€œWarner is okā€ takes and wondering if they actually watched the games before Warner got the ankle injury. He was arguably, the Saints best defender.

Too many fans perpetuated the myth that Warner was a small (240 pounds) version of Scott Shanle and will never see him differently.
Yep, based on da ā€œeyeā€ test alone, Pete DOES look a lil ā€œsmallā€, even ā€œthinā€, But I think I know why.

First of all, he wears #20. Itā€™s the # he had at OSU. He started out there at S, but after moving to LB, he kept it. The NFLs rule changes on number designations have allowed him to keep it here. Still, I can see how it could throw off ā€œperceptionsā€ by some folk about his size.

The other reason why he looks ā€œsmallā€ and/or ā€œthinā€ is because of his body frame. Even tho he IS about 240lbs, heā€™s also nearly 6ā€™3ā€ (74.88 in). Moreover, Werner has really long, 33 1/4 in arms!

So as he continues to develop n ā€œgrowā€ as an NFL LB, so will Peteā€™s body! IMO, he has a really nice frame, capable of eventually adding more weight n muscle mass to improve his strength ( And hopefully his HEALTH!) without losing any of his speed and/or his quickness!

Weā€™ll see, but hey, wat da hell do I know!

Seems like most folks think Wernerā€™s ceiling is no higher than a solid starter, and I think thatā€™s a garbage take.

The only thing that has held Werner back has been injuries.

When healthy, Pete Werner is a tackling machine that ranks among the league leaders. Heā€™s smart and athletic, and an extremely hard worker by all accounts.

I think he absolutely has a chance to take over as the Alpha LB on this team when DD slows downā€¦ He may never be DD, but Davis is the best all-around LB the Saints have ever had IMHO.

IDK about best overall, but he's good and getting better. Everyone was complaining about him being small, but that's just flat wrong. Can't recall the game, but one of the talking heads pointed it out.

Nope, sure not! But this is! Its not surprising I don't fanboy and drool over Werner like the rest of you. I think he is average at best. (Here is your retort, in Kim Kardashian's voice) Oh but he was leading the league in tackles! Then......

Me: Didn't he get hurt though..................(head explode).

I along with majority of the SR.com board collective all think that the Saints LBers are the weakest link on the team, all I'm saying is that we should sign Alexander who could spell Werner to limit his injury risk, while providing great depth that's all.

I agree with all this but I think you left out another elementā€¦ he wears really small shoulder pads.

Lol, I hear ya!

But nowadays, IMO, unless a player plays in ā€œthe trenchesā€, da ā€œbigā€ shoulder pads are pretty much a thing of da past

Jus my 2 cents tho

Yep you weren't joking, but you sure give a clown take here.....let me guess, you thought he wasn't going to be so good, didn't like the draft pick and when it turns out he can play, it hurt your feewings.....aw, so sorry.....

So lets go out and get an older, not nearly as good, injury prone LB as depth....I'm an LSU fan but Kwon doesn't help us at this point.....

I hope Pete Werner continues his "average" play.......in your opinion.....

I don't think it's calling him solid but saying that's all he'll ever be. He's was a second year ILB. Tough position for young guys. Pretty awesome what he's done so far.
