I haven't seen any estimates since all of the restructured deals were announced yesterday

So we should be 3.2 Mil over the cap as of yesterday as far as I know. Cap set at 123 Mil

Teams with least room this am: CAR $8 mil over cap; NO $5.5 mil over; WASH $3 mil over; AZ $1.2 mil over; OAK $800k over.

To me this move was one of Loomis' worst as our GM. I remember when Harper got this big payday and my friends and I were just scratching our heads as to why in the world we would sign him to top 5 safety money. I'm a huge Loomis fan but this move has always been puzzling to me. I guess when you consider the worst moves by previous Saints GMs, this is baby $%&*.

There were not many options for the type of SS that we needed at the time that Harper's deal was signed. Also, at the time, he was coming off of a Pro-Bowl years IIRC. He signed for what was market rate for a good starting SS at the time. Plus, it was Payton and I guess to some extent Gregg Williams' decision to sign Harper to the contract. Loomis just gets the best deal he can. He does not decide who gets a deal without lots of, if not all input, from Payton.

And, while he is probably a bit overpaid at this point. Harper is not a bad SS. Especially not in a system that uses him close to the line of scrimmage. He was playing way out of position and comfort zone in Spanuolo's defense.

Yeah, I saw that too. Seems like ESPN keeps forgetting to subtract our rollover money left over from last years cap.

All I know is we'll be under by the start of free agency.

Yeah, one way or the other we will save a lot of money by lowering the salaries of or cutting Smith and Vilma. Plus, they could do something with Harper's contract. As a last resort, they could do something with Brees, but I think they would rather wait a year or two before doing that and bite the bullet on his salary as long as possible without having to gut the team.

Exactly, if anything, after FA signings of course, we would want to structure his contract to try and eat as much of it this year as possible.
