I heard in NYC sports radio this week, they think of all the games in week 17 the Saints/Panthers is one of the better matchups where the game will almost certainly have playoff implications for both teams. The Falcons/Eagles is the other game they think will be broadcast because you have two media darlings in Vick and McNabb. They mentioned some other matchups such as Jags/KC but that's two small TV markets. Pitt / Cincy has a remote shot at being a big game with divisional playoff and wild card implications assuming Pittsburgh gets on a roll and runs the table down the stretch.

I believe it will be the Panthers at Saints.
3 reasons.

1. If all goes well, this is not just a making the playoffs kinda game. It could be deciding everything from #1 seed down.

2. Feel good story for NBC to play up about the Saints miraculous turn around.

3. I got to work that night at the casino. No way I get New Year's Eve off.

The flex thing is cool for viewers, but it stinks for travellers. What if you fly in for an early game and your plane home is in the evening. Then the week before, they pull the switcheroo on you and it messes it all up.

college fans have to deal with this every week. you don't know what time the game is until a week or 2 before kickoff. sucks but you have to plan for it.

i love the flex schedule

Under "Flex Scheduling" it says that they will use this flex scheduling format for weeks 10-15 and week 17 -- this excludes Christmas Eve but does include New Years Eve, so it is possible for the game to be moved to Sunday evening.

Can you imagine being in the Quarter on New Years Eve after a Saints victory to clinch the division and a playoff berth??

i cant wait for that

I dont want it at night on new years eve. Every year I host a party. Its the biggest thing since sliced bread. The only year we didnt do it was last year due to Katrina. We buy lots of fireworks, invite lots of friends... its tradition. We were looking to pick up where we left off this year, and im sure having this game at night would ruin a lot of peoples olans. Dont get me wrong, I would be in a pickle because I also havent missed a saints game in 5 years. So this would be a very tough choice for me.. hopefully one that I wont have to make.

Anyone else DOESNT want this to be at night?

I don't want it to be that night, because it will likely mean we have uncertainties regarding the playoffs. Not cool. That said, I would love for it to be at night, cuz I have to work during the day and no way I could get off. But I could leave early to make it to the game. :)

I think the Carolina - Saints game will be for the division, it HAS to be the night game.

It won't be a night game. Under the NFL's agreement that they made with the networks, only games that were originally scheduled to be a late start are eligible to be moved. Games that are scheduled for a noon start cannot be played as night games.
