Are the 2013 7-2 Saints Better than 2011 Saints Playoff Team vs. 49ers? (3 Viewers)

2011 was arguably the best offensive team the saints ever put on the field. I have been a saints fan since 1967. Defense is another matter.

2011 was arguable the best team in history for the Saints. Our O was second to none at that point and we were just a few defensive plays away from the NFCCG which we would of went onto win the SB. Our O put over 30 points even after 5 turnovers against what was the best D at the time. I can still remember myself going cold when Davies caught the TD, always will.

Absolutely not. That 2011 team was better than the 2009 team IMO.

You guys are getting me sad again talking about that 2011 season :( it set up for us so perfectly!!! Giants defy odds and go to Green Bay and spank the packers giving us an opportunity to spank them again in the warmth of the dome and we let them steal one. Hurts all over again.

I think Special Teams was close to a wash in punt and kickoffs.

I agree with this on coverage but I went with the 2011 team over 2013 because I had a LOT more faith in Hartley in 2011 and in 2011 I felt that Sproles could take any punt to the house-- I never feel that way this year.

The 2011 team was more talented but a bit less lucky than the 2009 team. If this 2013 team can get the run game hot going into the playoffs it will be the best and most balanced Saints team ever and one of the best in the history of the NFL.

I'll just answer the original question posed:

Offense: No (at least not yet)
Defense: Yes
Special Teams: No
Coaching: Yes

Regardless how many more Lombardis our boys get in the future, 2011 will always be the one that got away.

You sir...have created order out of chaos!

If our offense can perform like it did against Dallas consistently, we can easily have a better offense than 2011 and I know our defense is much better. But Yeah 2011 was a very special season.

Yep. I'm hoping this team goes on a tear like the 11 team did. We need that oline and run game to click and we could be unstoppable. The defense is SO much better than that year. So I'm very optimistic that if the online starts clicking we will compete to win it all.

Yep, that offense was really good but that defense was toothless when it counted. This defense is younger, faster, and better. I hope Vacarro plays but I doubt he will. I have a feeling this whole charade is just Payton being Payton where team information is concerned.

I'll take the last bold first:

2011 WAS the one that got away!!!!! We beat the Niners, and NOBODY comes even close to beatin us, EXCEPT......

Roger Goodell, who would go on to strip the Saints of their 2nd SB victory, and award the SB to the Pats!

:jpshakehead:

As for this team vs. the '11 team, the jury is still out on the O. After 9 games in 2011, we were 6-3. After 9 games this year, we're 7-2. It was the last 6 games of the season when the 2011 Saints O went to a whole nother level and averaged nearly 40 ppg. IMO, our next 7 games this year are tougher than the last 7 games the '11 team had, starting with a very good Niners team on Sunday.

So as for which O is better, I guess we'll just have to wait n see how the rest of this season plays out.

But I just wanna win it ALL, no matter what!!!

If Saints had to lose 1 game of the next 3 games,

Take a home loss to 49ers?, but take a win on the road vs. SeaHags?

Win both SeaHags and 49ers games, but lose (yikes) to Panthers and Falcons?

Look for this Sundays game v 49ers as Hartleys last game with Saints for sure, if he misses just one kick....

Obviously, win all, but if they "had" to lose 1 game, choose 49ers at home, but prove NFL you can go on the road, hostile environment and blow out SeaHags!

whiskey tango foxtrot?

I don't think so. I know it sounds blashpemous, but I think the 2011 Saints team may have very well been the best Saints team of all-time.

It's not. The Pats won 3 Super Bowls in the last decade, but their best team finished 18-1 and lost the SB to the Giants. 2011 was also a
big disappointment for the Packers. They went 15-1,but lost their first playoff game against the Giants. If you asked those two teams
fan bases, they'd say those were the ones that got away also.

When the Giants beat GB the day after we lost in SF,it was like pouring salt into the wound. The NFCCG would have been in the Superdome
and it would have been a blowout win for the Saints. I'll go to my grave believing that. I also believe we would have beaten the Pats 2 weeks later
in the Super Bowl.
