Are The Bucs Better Than They Are Perceived To Be? (1 Viewer)

Those stats don't make up for the fact that they went to the playoffs and won a game while the Allen and the Saints watched from their couches.

This has happened for the last 4 years despite the claims from Loomis and Co that the Saints are a playoff caliber team and Dennis Allen was our best bet to win now.

Until the results change they are the better team.
The worst part of the 2023 season is Derek Carr was 90% fools gold. He starts putting up numbers in garbage time. If you just went by the box score of the Rams game and look at Carr's stats, you would think he played well. In reality, he was garbage when the game was still in doubt. He will put numbers up when another team has a big lead and relaxes a little bit. The Lions game, almost the entire game was garbage time. The Rams game, almost all of it was garbage time. Minnesota? Most of that one was garbage time. Jacksonville? Mostly garbage time, even tho they had a chance at the end when Moreau couldn't catch the touchdown.

Even during that dry spell from 08-19? They only had three winning seasons during that timeframe.
They were 146-158 under Malcom Glazer and 75-88 under Bryan Glazer.
Under both Glazers, they’re 221-246.

I don't get why people underestimate Baker so much.

He is in the top half of starting QB's in the league.

No one should be judged for their time on the Cleveland Browns.
Probably due to Baker's bouts with immaturity while starting for the Browns. His beefs with teammates, coaches, and the press. His nagging injuries didn't help much, either.

The Browns were assembling a pretty talented squad around him.

I don't understand why people are still being dismissive of the Bucs- yet don't really care.

I think the Bucs way overachieved this season. So no, they aren't really better than they are perceived to be. They used the same strategy as the Saints did with Drew, but succeeded in getting their Super Bowl with Brady. This year they were quick eat the $70 million in dead cap and reset after Brady retired. They probably have a tiny bit more cleaning up to do, but are way further over the hump than we are. They still have some good players and now have a bit of cap space to start really improving going forward. I think their fans will appreciate the soft landing the front office was able to orchestrate after giving them a championship.

Yea maybe, but he was a kid in a terrible situation back then. It seems pretty clear that he's matured since he left Cleveland.

I hope I'm wrong and Baker never has another good season, because we're going to be dealing with him in the division for a while i fear.

I don't think anyone can dispute that he's the best QB in the division right now.

Are the Buccaneers who we think they are?

Or are they better than what they are perceived to be?

The Falcons are the Saints most hated rival due to their length of history playing each other but Atlanta nor Carolina can enter the conversation of anything mentioned below, therefore, the Buccaneers are currently the Saints biggest competition in the NFC South. With that said, lets take a look at what the Buccaneers can boast of, especially over the past 4 years.

The Bucs are the Only NFC team that has made the Playoffs each of the past 4 seasons, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

The only teams in the entire NFL that have more current consecutive Playoff seasons than the Bucs with 4 are the Chiefs (9) and the Bills (5).

The Bucs have Won more Playoff games (6) than any other NFC team over the past 4 seasons. Only the Chiefs (AFC) in the entire league have won more playoff games the past 4 seasons (9).

No other team in the NFL has won more Super Bowls during the past 4 seasons than the Bucs (1), Chiefs (1), Rams (1) - 2023 season yet TBD.

The Bucs have won the NFC South the past 3 years in a row, 2021, 2022, 2023.

The Bucs have won 2 Super Bowls, the most by any franchise currently in the NFC South. (Saints 1)

The Bucs have made the playoffs 4 consecutive years in a row 2 times (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 - 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023). (The Saints have done so just once, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)

Over the past 4 seasons the Buccaneers have a regular season record of 41 Wins and 26 Losses. (The Saints have a record of 37 Wins and 30 Losses over the past 4 seasons.)

The Buccaneers are the only team in the NFC South to Appear in an NFC Championship Game, Win an NFC Championship, Appear in a Super Bowl, Win a Super Bowl, in the past 4 seasons.

The Saints have Won the NFC South 7 times. The Bucs have Won the NFC South 6 times.

It's time for the Saints to regain control of the division and break the Bucs reign. 2024 will be the year to do it. The Saints can't let this linger any longer. Let's Go!
It depends on how you look at it. I think they have a better young core of players on defense than us.

Because the Bucs had Brady, got Fournette and won the SB there is a perception the Bucs are an old team. But of all the names people know, only Evans, David, Godwin and Vea were on the team before 2020.

Not counting D White. The Saints can have him.

They had Tom Brady for three years then played in easily the worst division in the league. Pretty standard issue stuff here.

The answer right now this second is yes the bucs are the better team. They made the playoffs and won a wildcard round and darn near knocked of Detroit. The saints were the better team over the last quarter of the season but… we kicked 5 field goals in Atlanta and got beat by a god awful falcons team, where as a team with a half decent QB and a decent play caller walks out with a blow out win. We blew a 17 point 4th quarter lead in GB and as a result we watched the Bucs become a better team on TV.

Right now the Bucs are the better team come October November 2024 things may well be different but right now… no they are the better team.

Yes, they are better than us in recent years, it's just a violation of forum guidelines to suggest any division rival is better.

Divisional round > no playoffs
Bowles> Allen
Truth hurts.

Well, I wasn't suggesting a division rival is better than the Saints. That would be absurd. I was mainly pointing out that Saints fans focus on the Clowns as our nemesis and seem to sleep on the Yuks due to their overall team history actually being worse than the Saints but in the past 4 years TB has flown under the radar for overall accomplishments, Brady or not. That Truth does Hurt.

I also included some stuff that dates back to the inception of the NFC South which was formed in realignment in 2022. So, I'll also post some positives in which the Saints have the upper hand within the division and in particular, the Buccaneers, over the span of the 22 NFCS seasons, along with the all-time series.

Since the NFC South was formed in 2002 all 4 teams have played 355 regular season games. The Saints have won the most of all 4 teams. The Bucs the least.

Saints Regular Season Record 2002-2023
203 Wins, 152 Losses, 0 Ties (Winning Percentage .572)

Falcons Regular Season Record 2002-2023
178 Wins, 176 Losses, 1 Tie (Winning Percentage .503)

Panthers Regular Season Record 2002-2023
168 Wins, 186 Losses, 1 Ties (Winning Percentage .475)

Buccaneers Regular Season Record 2002-2023
160 Wins, 195 Losses, O Ties (Winning Percentage .451)

The Saints lead the all-time series against the Buccaneers 40-25.

The Saints lead the all-time NFC South Division series against the Buccaneers 27-17.

The Saints have an all-time record of 412 Wins, 468 Losses, and 5 Ties. (Winning Percentage .466)

The Buccaneers have an all-time record of 308 Wins, 450 Losses, and 1 Tie. (Winning Percentage .405)

The Saints have won the NFC South 7 times, the Buccaneers have won the NFCS 6 times.

The Saints have the fewest last place finishes in the division with 2.

The Buccaneers have the most last place finishes in the division with 10.

The longest Win Streak the Buccaneers have had against the Saints as NFC South opponents is 3 games, once.

The Saints have had Win Streaks against the Buccaneer as NFC South opponents of 3 games, 5 games, and 7 games.

The longest Win Streak the Buccaneers have had against the Saints in the all-time history is 3 games, once.

The Saints have had Win Streaks against the Buccaneers in the all-time series history of 3 games once, 4 games once, 5 games once, 6 games once, and 7 games once.

Of the last 10 regular season games between the Saints and the Buccaneers the Saints have Won 7, the Buccaneers 3.

To sum up, the Saints have dominated the Buccaneers in the all-time series as well as in the NFC South all-time series.

You spent all that space and energy asking about a team that was quite lucky to get ahead of us in the tiebreakers? 😁

I know the entire division sucked eggs last year, but if the Yucs play any team besides the dumpster fire Panthers that final week, we’d have been playing the Eagles at home the following week 👍 And as we found out later, there was smoke coming from the Eagles’ house at that time…so who knows WHAT might’ve happened 😁
The Yucs beat the Pansies twice this past season. So did the Saints.
