Are the Saints planning to tank in 2023? (2 Viewers)

The only thing I can hold onto right now, is that Loomis has some acceptance in the back of his mind that he will do things in 2023 to better set the franchise up in 2024. Get the cap in order, maybe he didnt want to bring a new HC into (what he is not publicly calling) a rebuild, a cap realignment, a reset.

I doubt we tank. But I have to believe that Loomis mustve faced some hard truth about expectations for the 2023 season.

Otherwise, none of these decisions make much sense.

Not likely, but if you wanted to reset 2024 would be the best year to do it because you'd have a full slate of picks and a clean salary cap.

Houston has 2 first round picks in 2023 and 2024…Take the 2024 picks and couple that with our first round pick to possibly move up. You would have 3 first round picks. We won’t talk about the Tulane Game Caleb.

I think what we do with our (anticipated) first round pick will tell us a lot. If we trade it down to get 2024 resources then it speaks to a willingness to stink this year and reset. If we take it and move up then it’s Loomis/cap business as usual.

Tanking for a higher draft pick rarely works. I'm not saying that the Browns tanked but just look at how many high picks they have used in the last 20 years on a QB and completely failed finding one.
This all day. You can wind up with Ryan Leaf or JaMarcus Russell.

I think they are buying time to get out off a bad cap situation and build up assets. If the Saints were full scale hiring right now they would easily be the least attractive job on the market. At the same time they still have enough talent on this team to make a push for the division. So they'll try to win what they can with mid-level moves.

I don't think they should tank but I do think they should fix their salary cap problems which might take two season. This is a competitive disadvantage and they aren't competing for a Superbowl

No. We will fight to the finish to win as many games as possible, especially at the end of the season to give a good showing, ultimately to wind up with a mid-round draft pick.

I think we're in for more of the same next year. Another disappointer, but not nearly enough to get the number 1, hell probably not even top 5. Probably looking at another 10-15 range pick.
