Are you happy with the three wins (3-1) and lower draft position? (1 Viewer)

The picks don't matter at all to me. Always play to win. Find a Franchise QB and everything else tends to work itself out. That's number one. You have to find a top 5 QB to win superbowls.

I want the Saints to win out. Wherever the Saints land in the draft, it will be an impact player available at one of their need positions. I've done a lot of simulations, and I've got a player I wanted as low as #33.

Or would.you have preferred they lose them all for a top 5 pick?
As much as I like winning, beating some of the worst teams in the NFL dont mean alot, and if we would have gotten an early pick we could have traded back. We now will get a middle of the pack pick, and have the same personnel department picking. Beating the Giants when the refs gives u 10 pts, and Atlanta when Koo missed 3 field goals are very borderline wins. We actually beat Cleveland. I still would rather the draft position

Better to have 53 players with fight in them, then a draft position a handful of picks sooner and 53 players with little to no fight.
We looked like crap against a 2 win team. I thought it was very disappointing. No run game against the 29th run defense, and our famous first string Oline, and our defense almost lost to their horrible QB. Thank goodness the refs liked us..

I've always hoped the franchise record would grow to be a better than .500 winning percentage. Everyone wants a winner.

You play every game to win, tanking is demoralizing for everyone involved.

There is no one specific to target. I want to see what this roster is capable of with a good coach. I hope we win out!

I just don't like the feeling of losing. Tanking or losing just to get a higher draft picks doesn't always work out. In fact you can look at most struggling teams that had pick top 10 for many years and struggles to have a winning record still.
Tanking doesn't exist in the NFL. Some fans need to let this go. Coaches,GM's and players jobs are on the line.

good article explaining why.

Take 2011 for example. JJ Watt was taken at 9,and Cam Jordan was taken 24th. They had much better careers than
some drafted before them.

The Saints need to start over and re-build the team through the draft. I also think wins will not come easy in the next few years so they may not have a choice but to use the draft. At this point, I would hope the Saints would find a good young QB to immediately replace Carr with. It may not be in this years draft but I'm still hoping it comes sooner than later. A lower pick in this years draft is a start to a new beginning.

I wish folks would stop with the "tank for a better draft pick" nonsense. There is NO GUARANTEE that a higher pick = a better player. I'll concede that a 1st round talent is likely better than a 2nd rounder, who is likely better than a 3rd round talent, etc... But within the round, you're splitting hairs, IMO. There is all kinds of anecdotal evidence that demonstrates that top picks (top 5, top 10, #1 overall)....BUST; while Lamar Jackson was a #32 pick and is perennially considered an All-Pro and MVP Candidate. Our own Drew Brees was a 2nd rounder in the same draft that selected Mike Vick in the top of the 1st. Anyone think Vick was the better pro? I could go on and on with example after example. If you don't accept the "individual player/pick argument", how about the "consistently top pick" argument? There are teams who consistently pick in the top 5 or top 10, year after year after year. With all those higher picks over the years, shouldn't those teams have been to a Superbowl, or at least the playoffs by now?! Higher picks don't guarantee better players, so stop pretending they do.

Just win as many games as you can with the players you got! With that said, it shouldn't be a shock to hear that I'm happy to be 3-1 under Rizzi, at the expense of lower picks. I'll be even happier if Rizzi takes the team on a 7-1, or 6-2, or 5-3 run....resulting in even lower pick. Going 3-1 under Rizzi after the DA debacle provides valuable insight also. It shows what COACHING can provide to this team in the absence of talent influx. Not that I don't think this team wouldn't benefit from an influx of younger and cheaper talent, because it would. But that's a 2nd variable. The 1st variable is the change in coaching. The change in coaching indicates to me that this team is capable of MORE than the 2-7 run it put together. Yes, injuries were a factor, and continue to be a factor. But injuries are a factor for EVERY team, so let's not pretend it's unique to the Saints, or only affects certain HCs. But injuries reveal your depth; your coaching ability for "next man up"; and intestinal fortitude to weather the storm until your front-line warriors return.

Back to the coaching...this 3-1 stretch (with continued injuries!) indicates to me that COACHING can solve many of the issues that held this team back this season. I'm not even saying Rizzi is the answer, because I think it's too soon to say for certain. But he's better than the last guy, and I can't help but wonder what a full season under Rizzi would look like. What coaches would be replaced, if any, if it was HIS job rather than keeping the boat afloat after mid-season disaster. You don't cause more turnover in an interim situation, and Rizzi has calmed the storm, IMO. But what other changes would he enact if given the opportunity at season end?

But enough about Rizzi. He hasn't earned the job (yet?!). Rizzi is a "proof of concept" in that the RIGHT coach can get more out of this team than we've been getting for the past 3 seasons! And the Saints are going to get a new HC this offseason...if not Rizzi, someone else. And the RIGHT coach will elevate this team moreso than a top 5 draft pick, and going 3-1 with lower draft pick will demonstrate that to a HC candidate...."do my job, and we can win here, quickly!" Best part about picking a coach....there is no "draft order"...we don't have to wait for the worst team to pick the best HC candidate so we can see who is left for us.

Winning is a habit, but so is losing. Tanking for higher draft pick is like getting fat on purpose so you can see if the new fad diet actually works. I'm happy with the 3 wins....F the draft position.
