NFL Draft Army wildcat QB Bryson Daily (2 Viewers)

I think we will be trying for years to find a replacement for Taysom. It ain't gonna be easy. Taysom isn't just tough, he isn't just talented, he isn't just versatile, he's smart. He sits in every room...QB, WR, ST, etc. I think he could probably kick FGs if we needed him to. If he was easy to replace, every team would a guy just like him.

They had to then. They don’t anymore. It is a fairly recent change made a few years ago
A couple of years ago they grandfather in those in the 2019 freshman class but all who entered into a service academy since and stayed to start their Junior year must go on active duty upon graduation.

The article inferred that two years away from football can be detrimental to a player’s football career. I just wanted to point out that it possible to resurrect a football career and be successful after two years away. Injured players too have been away from the playing field and still become successful.

Did anybody know Taysom Hill could do those things before he did them?

No. He was a guy who did a little, then showed a willingness to do a little more, then kept adding to his skills over time. This expectation that guys come pre-fabricated and fully formed with demonstrated evidence is half-baked. After measurements and intangibles, the only thing left is to imagine possibilities. Daily wouldn’t make it at the next level expecting to solely play QB, the way Taysom thought he might all the way up to the point when the team changed his position to drive the point home: “throwing is one of many things you’ll do on this team.”
You’re right, but in order for someone to fill his role or even a portion of his role, they need to be able (and WILLING) to do those things.

There have only been a handful of ex QB’s who’ve transitioned to other positions in the NFL and actually been successful, and none have succeeded at multiple positions/roles like Taysom has as a QB, runner, blocker, receiver, and special teams player.

Finding a running QB that can come in on some downs and get some yards is easy to find, the NCAA is full of them. Finding someone that can actually do all the things he does consistently is not so easy.

He can have “it” all he wants - he still just received a $500,000 education on the taxpayer’s tab and can go do his obligated service.
They are more willing to make exceptions lately for athletes who have pro abilities. You can serve as a reservist, with permission, instead of Active Duty.

Upon further review … you’re right. I didn’t realize they changed the rule again last December. 👍

Not good enough, not for that kind of education he was offered. Five years active duty is not asking much.

Exactly, the fact there isn't even close to being one player that can play two positions well tells us something. NFL is a copycat league and no.one has found a player that can play multiple roles effectively.

Saying finding the next Taysom is like saying finding the next Brees. It is selling Taysom very short and is hinting that he can easily be found

I agree, i served. And officers live a way better life than enlisted personel do.

While we busted our butt in the field doing 72 hour ops. They are eating and sleeping. Probably reading books.

With technology, they Probably play games on cellphone and watch football.

Yup.

In order to find out you have to get the guy in the building.

No player comes ready-made to fill six roles. You find out he can and is willing to as he plays.
