Baldy’s Breakdown: Taysom Hill vs 49ers (2 Viewers)

My favorite Baldy breakdown was when we played the Bills and ran the ball down their throat. (2016 or so?) Does anyone have that breakdown or know where I can find it?

I've watched NFL football for a looooooooooooooong time and Hill is without a doubt the most complete football player I've ever seen.

If pressed to do so I'd bet he could play safety or a rover position hovering around the line of scrimmage.

There's not a doubt in my mind that someday he will be fitted for a gold jacket.

Good Lord it's been a privilege to have him wearing a Saints uniform!!

Hill was coming off of a season ending injury for the 4th time and wasn't invited to the NFL Combine in 2017. Just a year earlier he was considered for the Heisman.

Several NFL scouts projected Hill to be moved to safety due to his Rare Height/Weight/Strength/Speed combination as his best position fit in the NFL.

If he were to play a defensive position, deep safety would fit his skill set best with his size and speed along with his leaping ability (38" Vertical) to high point the ball.

He's also big, strong, and fast enough to play a LB position, a spy on the QB, or a Rover as you suggested, especially if used as a blitzer.

It appears as though D.A. has some similar thoughts about Taysom. He comments below about Hill today on the Kay Adams podcast Up&Adams as viewed on the Saints X account Saints Film Room @saintsfilmroom

Taysom Hill will carry Smyth on his back as he kicks a new record 75 yard field goal, game winner 🏆

Yes, Taysom kicks it with Smyth cheering him on from the shoulder blade area 🎯

I do think that bootleg action with the TE chipping and then going out on a route that we have seen a lot in preseason is tailor made for Hill as a QB. He's not all that accurate as a pocket passer, but that play usually leads to a wide open TE and if he's not, Hill can just run the ball. That play would put so much stress on the edge of a defense and I feel sorry for the DB that tries to tackle Hill straight up.

Taysom Hill is also going to help hide the fact the Saints are two deep at wide receiver. What I mean is formation why he will line up as a fullback or second tight end on a lot of plays where other offenses would be in a one back one tight end and three wide receiver formations or four wide. In losing Michael Thomas and the bargain bin filler after Olave and Shaheed the Saints are weak at wide out. We are also down Jimmy Graham from last year but Johnson and Moreau are adequate. I also hope we start in two back with Kamara and Hill and motion out Kamara a good bit. Showing a willingness for to hand the ball to Hill a light box (something he rarely if ever got as a running quarterback) is a matchup nightmare.

Yeah, Hill getting the option to run or pass after a TE chip block (TE has to "sell" the block) and Hill getting the ball as a RB after Kamara is lined up as a running back and Hill facing a light box to run. Those plays will cause a defense fits. Run both combinations on the same play.... 2WR set, Hill and Kamara as RB's (I formation or split, maybe offset even), Kamara in motion, sets as WR, wide, snap to QB, toss back to Hill, TE chip blocks, Kamara runs a slant back to inside, WR right next to him runs a Go route, other WR runs a Go route. Hill can: run, pass to TE or Kamara short or throw to either WR running Go routes. This offense might not be great, but it will be creative.

In that video D.A. says that he and the defensive staff wanted to put Hill at Sam LB, but the head coach at the time wasn't giving up Hill. So, D.A. as defensive coordinator wanted to play Hill at Sam and rush him about 50% of the time, but Payton didn't allow it. After D.A. tells Kay he would play him at Sam and rush him half the time, Kay says he would kill people. Dennis very candidly and nonchalantly says, "yeah" as he smiles and nods in agreement.

Maybe one of the reasons Hill likes the Saints so much is because almost every coach wants him on their unit. When Kay asks him to play Hill at Sam for just one game, D. A. jokes we'll see, but adds the guy can't play every snap in a game.

I love that he’s not limited to running from the QB position anymore. I’ve been screaming for them to hand off to him for years.
Taysom has been one of the few consistent playmakers on this team for years now. They needed to get the ball in his hands by any means necessary. It's that simple. I have to give SP/Pete credit on some of their creativity with Taysom. They did some cool things but he was a gadget player. I'd love to see Taysom folded into the offense instead of having Taysom packages. Line him up all over the place and keep defenses guessing snap to snap. How do you account for a guy who can line up at every skill position from down to down? And not only can he line up anywhere, he can be a threat from anywhere. I'm sure Michael Vick could've line up at Fullback but was he going to be effective? Probably not.

Taysom Hill is the most unique offensive weapon I have ever seen in the NFL. A singular talent capable moving the ball running, receiving, and passing. It will be interesting to see how a new offensive mind takes advantage of his skillset and the mismatches he presents.

My only concern is the fact that he turns 34 tomorrow. Hopefully his body can handle the expanded role, specifically lead blocking as a Fullback. If his body holds up then he could have a special season.

The Packers are a dumb org....how do you miss TH? They were about to cut him from the practice squad I imagine, dum dums
He never made it to the Packers practice squad. He was waived by the Packers on final cutdown day. The Saints claimed Hill the following day.

2017 Saints QBs

1. Drew Brees
2. Chase Daniel
3. Taysom Hill

I remember Payton was on a scouting trip to see a particular player but TH was the stand out...waived is nuts, cannot imagine the excuse for it
