Battlestar Galactica Discussions (MERGED)

i just thought of a great (imo) storyline - a Hard Knocks type show following Sam Anders' Pyramid team
it's a bit Hard Knocks and a bit Ballers but they actually lean in and really develop the Pyramid game so the first half of the season, the main drama is the league and the game and playoffs - whatever political unrest and impending doom is whispered at the edges
might even have that be the whole 1st season and don't even get Cylons until season finale

anyone know Sam Esmail?

Bumping this thread because I've been watching the show again and am about 4 episodes from the end. I think that I missed some episodes near the end because I don't recall some of this stuff (and yes, it's confusing). I don't recall if they stick the landing, but I kind of think they don't. But, I hope I'm wrong.

Anway, despite how old the show is, I think it really holds up well. Probably because they kept the effects mostly practical and they must have hit the exact right time period to have passable but cheap shots of spaceships in space.

They tell a great and mostly relatable story. I binged it a few years ago and enjoyed it. Probably will again in the not too distant future. I've long been a fan.

Agreed. They did a good job of moving the overall story while telling the personal stories in between. And they were doing 20 episode seasons without having too much in the way of filler episodes. Which is pretty amazing in an era where "prestige" TV shows now usually have 8 to 10 episode seasons that take 2 years to make. They put out an amazing amount of quality content in 4 years.

It's been a good binge watch for me because I watched it long enough ago that I forgot all the details of what happened in the show so some of it is still kind of a surprise. Or at least I wasn't sure that I recalled what happened and who all the hidden Cylons were.

I was just thinking of binging this again

Love the show but thought the first two seasons were much stronger than the last two

That early season one episode “32” I think, where they had to keep jumping every 32 minutes was not only one of the show’s best I’d put in in my top 10 episodes of any show

Oh yeah, that was an awesome episode. Good call.

On my rewatch, I think it holds up really well overall until mid-to-late in the final season. I actually think the whole mutiny arch with Gaeta is really good, but after that it's kind of going off the rails a bit.

I re-watched this series quite often and it still meets my expectations...each time! If you're not all in after the initial min-series, episode 1 of season 1 (33) should set the hook.

edit: I just watched this interview with Katee Sackhoff & Ron Moore and he explained why he wouldn't answer THE question:

So I finished this last night and I think they did stick the landing. There are still some open questions left but I think they finished to story well, didn't force any happy endings, but also didn't make it an overly sad ending. Definitely one of the top Sci-Fi shows of all time that holds up over a long period of time.

And it is an amazing job of making a legitimate drama out of a cheesy/campy 70s TV show.

I've said before (maybe in this thread) that Battlestar is the sci fi show I'd show people who say they don't like sci fi

Great show and loved watching it. However it’s one of those shows I don’t like rewatching much. Because I know all the surprises and such.

It had been so long since I had watched it that I had forgotten some of the surprises. I also think that I missed a few episodes near the end when it originally aired. So it was still reasonably fresh for me despite knowing the entire plot, how it ended, and some of the surprises.

Still a great show to watch even though I recalled most of it going into it.

That being said, now that I have watched it again, I'd probably have to wait another 15 to 20 years before watching it again for it to be as good.
