Best rock song intros (2 Viewers)

Leave my girl alone
Wall of denial
Pride and joy
Mary had a little lamb
Lenny

All really, just to specify a few though.

Does The Hellion by Judas Priest count? Its an intro but on its own track.

N.I.B. - Sabbath (since guitars are for silly little girls and the bass is Almighty).

Territory - Sepultura

Holy Wars - Megadeth

Know Your Enemy - RATM

Desecrate Through Reverence - Avenged Sevenfold

Intro to Reality - Anthrax

Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts - Less Than Jake

And my guilty pleasure:
The Downfall Of Western Civilization - MXPX

What, nobody mentioned "Stairway"?

It's a good topic: the kind of songs that make you stop whatever you're doing and listen to the radio from the first note.

A few more candidates:

"Los Angeles," the first song on the first X album.

Just about every song on "Who's Next"

Prince was also good at this, in his early days: "1999" and "Let's Go Crazy" among others.

Midnight Oil, "Beds are Burning"

The Bangles, "Hero Takes A Fall" (a particular guilty pleasure of mine)

The Clash, "London Calling" (unless you're old school and prefer "White Riot"

Or, going way back, Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4" which was considered the coolest intro when I was a kid--I'm semi-embarassed to remember that the intro was our favorite thing to play in junior high school band!

to add to the great ones already mentioned...
"Dead and Bloated" - STP
"Black Sunshine"- White Zombie
"Civil War"- Guns N Roses

Nobody like Foreplay/Longtime by Boston?!?! That is quite possibly the best song intro.

More Human Than Human - White Zombie (gotta love the sex sounds)

These seem to come in pairs, and in some cases, there are two songs, the lesser of which leads into the more famous one:

"Echoes", Sheep", and "Time" by Pink Floyd
"Threshold/Jet Airliner" & "Space Intro/Fly Like an Eagle" by the Steve Miller Band
"Highway Star" and "Space Truckin'" by Deep Purple
"For Those About To Rock" and "Back In Black" by AC/DC
"Eruption/You Really Got Me" and "1984/Jump" by Van Halen
"Fire On High" by ELO
"Sychronicity II" by The Police
"Baba O'Riley" by The Who
"Ten Years Gone" by Led Zeppelin
"Spiral Architect" and "Jack the Stripper/Fairies Wear Boots" by Black Sabbath
"Where the Streets Have No Name" by U2
"The Confessor" by Joe Walsh
Any opening riff by Uncle Ted
and, last but not least,
"Freebird" by Lynryd Skynyrd

this is really an intro to a whole album.....

When the going gets tough
And the stomach acids flow
The cold wind of conformity
Is nipping at your nose
When some trendy new atrocity
Has brought you to your knees
Come with us we'll sail the
Seas of Cheese

Thuderstruck - AC/DC

Sweet Child O Mine - G&R

Iron Man - Black Sabbath

VooDoo Child - Hendrix

:plus-un2:

Add:

Master of Puppets
Baba O'Reily
We Will Rock You (easily one of the most recognized intros ever)

More Human than Human - White Zombie
