Best Win Ever Against: Atlanta Falcons (1 Viewer)

Good offseason discussion topic. I guess you are correct about the NFCCG being the most consistently loud. And yes the return to the Dome was the most emotional thing I have ever seen or heard. Admit to tears that night as well

But I as an old timer go back to circa 85??? We were 8-7 and the final game of the year was against the Rams. Win and we have our FIRST winning season EVER not to mention our first playoff game. We are up 17-16 (historian fans can fix my stats if I am wrong). Bum Phillips decides against letting Morton Anderson kick a 47 yard FG instead relying on the Dome Patrol. Under 2 minutes. When the defense came on the field the rest of the team was standing on the bench waving white towels. I’m telling you. And I have been there since 67… I think that was the loudest I have ever heard the Dome. It was insane. Then Landsford??? Kicks a long FG and the place goes deafly silent for maybe a minute or so. Then we just started clapping. Thanking the team for a great ride.
That was 1983, and we’ve posted about it many times. I was just eight years old at the time, but I do indeed remember watching it with my dad and uncles. The ‘83 official highlight film is on YouTube and it’ll still bring a Who Dat to tears to re-live how it had to end. They’d have lost to either Dallas or Washington in the first round, plus the Mecom-and-Bum era really wasn’t sustainable — but in a way it would’ve been nice to see them make the playoffs in ‘83.

Well I guess I have missed that discussion. My point was about the crowd noise at that game with all that it meant at the time. Winning season. 1st playoff game etc etc. I do agree with the rest of what you said but that really was secondary to us at the time

i was at that game and i was telling my buddy, when the Falcons had 1st and goal, that we should just let them score so we'd get the ball back with enough time to score... Boy was i wrong, and he didn't let me forget it..lol
It’s possible to find something joyous in all the victories over the Falcons through the years 👍 The Payton era sure had some thrillers (the home wins in 2012 and ‘13, that featured Ivory’s famous stiff-arm and then the play at the goal line to seal a win in Payton’s first game back from suspension; the road win in 2018 in overtime that featured Brees’ legs instead of his arm at the end).

The road game in 2007 that got their head coach fired is memorable for me because it was a Monday Night game and I was 15-0 in the picks that week, so of course I was nervous about picking the Saints to win because it would've been the perfect Saints thing to do in screwing me over on a perfect week, but nope, they came through and handily.

The first Saints-Falcons game I ever went to, in 1992, Deion picked off Hebert at the end of the first half, and Hebert jacked him so hard on the tackle that Deion had to sit out the second-half kickoff rather than return it.

Not a significant win as Saints/Falcons history goes, but probably in my personal Top 5.

Haha, yeah, I didn’t even see Tracy Porter clear the goal line - as he was running the last 15 yds, I was looking back down the field trying to spot the flag I just KNEW was on the ground somewhere!

Beat a dog with a rolled up newspaper enough and he’ll slink away every time you wanna read the funny papers!
I threw a j on the ground because the play before led to an injury timeout and I figured that was a decent time to take a couple pulls. Then inside exploded in applause. I actually misinterpreted it - I figured big third-down TD for IND, like the last time we’d had a defensive injury - but the TD was ours…

If someone pulled me back into the house, I have no idea who it was.

Aside from the post-Katrina return to the dome, it has to be the Monday Nighter when Brees broke Marino's record.
That was my wife's first ever football game. For me, that will always be the best Saints vs Falcons game. Seeing Brees celebrating with the team and coaches along with a blowout was priceless. Energy on the field was a perfect experience for my wife. I also enjoyed seeing that special moment. I bought the tickets at the beginning of the season so I had no idea there would be a record.

I love this one from 2019... plus, any excuse to view this clip...
