So this is a pole, but I’m not gonna bother posting an actual pole... Just respond with your answer, and why (if you want.)

For me , it’s a really tough call.. Through most of the last 3 or 4 decades, it seems like Rosanna was kinda their classic song.. then, over the last 10 or 15 yrs, it seems like Africa has become more popular.. I enjoy the hell outta both of them, for purposes of this pole i might say Rosanna, just because I haven’t heard it quite as much lately as Africa, which seems to be overplayed.

ETA: In B4 ‘Hold the Line’

That is fairly tough. Maybe it should have been a poll.

Seriously though, Rosanna sounds more 80s. It just feels more happy 80s. I think Africa, with the help of numerous remakes and pop culture usage, might have stood the test of time better. So my answer may have been Rosanna back then but lean more Africa now.

Both of those songs are sort of fun, largely because they’re nostalgic and a bit because they’re well performed and fun to sing along with. Neither is particularly great or remarkable.

I think when it comes to 80s songs about Rosanna or Africa, “In Your Eyes” has them both beat.

I think that Africa is a remarkable song.. if not for the fact That it’s played too much, i think it’d be considered one of those transcendent songs, regardless of which decade it came out.. That’s not to say Rosanna isnt a good song- it’s a very good song, just not as timeless as Africa IMO.. but i enjoy both equally.. And In Your Eyes is kinda the power ballad equivalent of Rosanna (which is the fun, peppy equivalent to In Your Eyes deep longing nature), if that makes any sense.

Also, i‘ll submit that Toto’s I‘ll Be Over You is every bit the equal of Hold the Line.. though obviously very different songs, Ill be Over is as good a pop ballad as Hold the Line is a hard rocker.. Both are inferior to Rosanna and Africa.. and it’s extremely hard to believe that those 4 songs were all put out by the same band.
