I think part of it is, of course, just being a great ‘broad’ as she put it.. just positive and funny and sharp.. but i think a huge piece of it is that you have to live really long, as long as she did, to cultivate that type of admiration and goodwill.. if you are of a certain age like me, think about when Golden Girls was on the air- she was a household name for sure, and well-respected.. but end of the day, she was a well-known actress on a popular show.. as she got into her 80s and 90s, and the rest of the GG cast died off- she got more and more popular .. so i think it’s just a combination of all those things.

What’s crazy is that the only other entertainer i can think of who can engender that type of universal love is Dolly Parton- and i think she’s like 20 yrs younger than Betty White.. imagine how beloved Dolly will be if she lives another 15 or 20 yrs !

Because she was a good person that refused to change her personal values to suit everyone else.

Yep, she was always herself, never phony, it is obvious to anyone really paying attention.

Like them or not I look at Neil Young and Joni Mitchell the same way....no compromise...

I always liked Betty White, she was just naturally funny. I remember watching Golden Girls back in the day with the family when I was young. It’s pretty cool how that show transcends generations. My parents watched it, my generation and also my nieces and and nephews…I have a niece who’s daughter is 8 and her special time with my sister is to watch Golden Girls reruns when she visits her together.

Betty White was really awesome. RIP Betty.

At least in part, because she wasn't trying to be beloved. She just did her thing, loved and respected others and had fun doing it. There were critics of course, but fortunately, they were few and far between. Just goes to show, no matter how good or successful you are, people will always look for things to criticize.

I think Betty never let the criticisms get to her and would always take it in stride all the way up until she died. She grew old incredibly gracefully. I think we can all learn a few things from her.
