blue chip talent in the 2025 draft? (6 Viewers)

No Tet McMillan? I like him for the Saints but I don't know where he'd fall in other years draft classes. Is he behind Harrison, Nabers and Odunze? Brian Thomas? I wish there was a way to see a ranking compared to past years. For instance, we know Ward will be the first QB taken but would he be the 5-6 last year? That would be interesting to read an article like that.

Using the NFL.com Prospect Grade to even the field between the players, here are the grades for the players discussed.

Jeanty is the highest in the 2025 draft at 7.15.

T-Mac would be behind the top 4 WRs from last year. He has a 6.40 grade.

Malik Nabers - 6.86
Marvin Harrison Jr. -6.83
Rome Odunze - 6.74
Brian Thomas Jr. - 6.47

T-Mac: - 6.40

Ashton Jeanty

Malik Nabers
Marvin Harrision Jr.
Rome Odunze
Brian Thomas Jr.

T-Mac

Ashton Jeanty
Abdul Carter
Travis Hunter

That's the list. Jeanty is the only one we might have a chance at.

Wow. This is a rarity. The correct answer in the 2nd post. Nicely done, Tyler735.

And let's be clear, this IS the list. There's maybe a dozen to 16 players with a 1st round grade, but there's only THREE that grade as blue chippers. This is the definitive list. No, the TE doesn't make it. He's good compared to the rest of this year's class. NO, the top WR doesn't make it. Just because a player is at the top of his position ranking doesn't qualify them as a blue chip player. In most year's that's just the first qualifier to even be considered. In some years, it's possible to have multiple blue chip players at the same position. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is not one of those years. This draft is almost void of top talent. This is the Peter Werner of NFL drafts. Lots of players who will be good starters, but not a lot of anything special.

Here's the receivers. You can navigate that horrific website from there.

It is like picking through a garbage dump, but he does do his homework. I wish more draft gurus would do this. More data is always better. It certainly puts players in perspective. If more people looked at talent across years it would make it easier to spot reaches and avoid the siren song of drafting "need" .

It's Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter and Mason Graham then everyone else. Those are the three are true "blue chip" players in this draft class. Guys like Ward, Jeanty, Tet, Johnson etc are all great prospects but to me those 3 stand out as low floor high ceiling type guys.
Agreed. A bunch of folks don’t understand the term “blue chip.”

If you can stomach the website, Walterfootball.com has position group rankings and how they would slot in to the previous class and the ideal prospect. It's only one guy's (Charlie Campbell) opinion but gives you a feel.

He has Mason Graham at 13 on his "big board". And he says this:

Graham is a good player who plays hard, but team sources say he has a bad body.

He doesn’t have a significant injury history. What the hell does that even mean?

He has written that "team sources" have said he was flabby last season. That's probably why he weighed in under 300lbs at the combine. He cut weight.

Right. I like Graham but he's not a blue chipper. He outworked everyone on the field. That in itself is a good trait, but to be a blue chipper on the DL he has to be stronger and heavier. He's got a 1st round grade, but he's NOT a blue chip player.
