Bobby Hebert's gamble in 1990 paid off big for NFL's players (1 Viewer)

Very good read. I have a new appreciation for what happened back then. I was only 11, so I didn't understand what was going on with Bobby sitting out in 1990.

I remember oh so well when Bobby sat out. I wasn't mad at him; I was mad at Finks for wasting a year of one of the best defenses to ever be assembled. Bobby wasn't great, but he was clearly the best QB we had and we had a good running game. The way our D was playing, we had a chance to make a run in the playoffs with a competent QB at the helm, but Finks threw everything down the drain for a measly $400 large.

This is my favorite part of Holder's interview with Hebert:

"Even Rickey Jackson, you know how crazy Rickey is, he told me, 'You know, you made that cancer grown in Mr. Finks [who died of lung cancer in 1994]. You had him so stressed out,'" Hebert said. "And I go, 'Rickey, what are you talking about?' Rickey will say anything."

That's hilarious.

Thanks for posting, #12.

I still think that we would have won the Super Bowl that year if Bobby hadn't sat out :(

agreed

That was the best Saints team we ever had, before the Payton era, of course.

Fourcade was so terrible. I'll never forget that first game against the 49ers that year. I believe we lost 7-6? That year our defense was incredible. Wtih Hebert it's scary to think of how good we would have been that year.

Just when I wiped that name from my memory, someone has to frickin' bring it up...

We would have made it deep in the playoffs but 1993 could have been the year had he returned then. Prior to Sean Payton the 1992 team was the best IMHO. Combined point loss total of the 4 losses less than 18.

If they couldn't win it with him in '91 or '92, they sure as hell weren't going to do it in '90.

Too bad we were in the same division as the 49ers with those teams. Had he made to the big game we would have won it. He owned the AFC and had like a like atwo year winning streak against them.
