Body Cleanse.... do you believe in it? (1 Viewer)

Can you train a dog to clean up its own feces? Like maybe you could give him a little shovel and teach him to scoop it up and put it in the garbage can? Seriously.

Big fan of Penn and Teller here, but I am not going to put any faith in their show. I will not put any scientific "research" done by these two in any category other than entertainment. If you have ever watched their show, they NEVER offer any "evidence" from the opposing side. Sorry, but if I want any research done by comedic magicians, I'll call the Amazing Johnathon.:ezbill:

Seriously, Penn and Teller are entertainers, not scientists. They are employed by Showtime to do a show that will attract viewers to their channel. Their show is called ******** for pete's sake. It is a show based on comedy and I don't think scientists have their show on TiVo so they don't miss anything in case they come up with Earth shattering discoveries. I also don't think there are too many people putting their life or faith in the hands of a couple of comedic magicians, one of which never says a word.:dunno:

Of course I could be wrong and CNN will be cutting in with breaking news later to tell us P & T have found a cure for cancer.

As a side note, I'd like to add that this thread deserves more than 2 stars. :covri:

If it isn't closed anytime soon, it could rival the (now infamous) dinosaur thread...:worthy:

Maybe we can ask mythbusters to check this out...would you believe it then???

yes this thread is very much like the dino thread...a few misguided (misinformed) posters who will now get involved in a discussion but stay spouting the same info over and over again without even thinking that the other side has some valid points and a few laughing to hard to really care any more past page 10.

My comments about skin had nothing to do with P and T. I didn't see the show and wont comment on it with out seeing it. All of my comments on based off my education and experience and what I looked up just to check my facts. If your only argument is semantics...its weak, that usually happens when people are faced with facts that they cant refute. If you cant win the argument pick on the person your arguing with about things not related to the argument. Good job, well played.

Good luck with your "cleansing".... cya

beer is like 95% water.... does that count??

I've been testing that theory for many years, but unfortunately, it doesn't stay around long enough in the body to make any significant impact.

But, some studies take many decades to find their true impact. Stay diligent.

Saint34 asks what toxins I hope to clean out my body.
Well Saint34 I hope to do two things with the cleanse. First I hope to get the Toxins out of my body and next I hope to put good things in my body to get some of the things missing from my diet.

Guh?!

Saints#34 asked you "what toxins, exactly, are you trying to get rid of"?

So you answer with "toxins"?

You completely missed/avoided/failed to answer the question. What specific toxins, are you cleaning out of your body? Do these toxins have names, or are they just some theoretical mass of unnamed and unknown "bad guys"?

Lord.

Mock me if you must. I'm in too far to stop now. Besides $150 is nothing to me. I'm doing this in the name of good science. I don't care what some medical professional says. I have a friend that did the cleanse and it kick started a new life for her. She is 45 and as always been grossly overweight. Now she is 40lbs lighter and runs 3 miles a day. I'm not saying that the cleanse was the main factor, but she swears by it.

Hey, if I could get to wear I run 1/2 a mile a day, that would be great. I may try that today. I'm already eating heathier than I have in a while and the cleanse has really helped me break my addiction to sweets and diet soft drinks.

Whoa, I hope you weren't talking to me. I have not taken either side on this subject. All I said was I am not getting my scientific research from Penn and Teller. Sorry if that struck a chord with you, but when people ask me to do my own research, P & T are not who I go looking for. I said I was a big P & T fan, but you have to admit that they only tell one side of the story and they offer no discussion or rebuttals. Also, their so called experts often sound uneducated and stumble thru their speeches with too many "um's" and long pauses for my taste. As for your "skin" comments and picking on people, I really hope that was meant for someone else. I said nothing about your skin remarks, nor did I pick on anyone. Also, for the record, I have no dog in this fight. So I am not arguing with anyone or bringing up unrelated topics.

As far as Mythbusters is concerned, maybe that is a good idea. Although I don't want to see Adam or Jamie's butt. Now if they offer up Kari to do the "experiment", I'll tune in.:ezbill:

UPDATE DAY 6 .... Starting to see some unidentifiable stuff.

Well pooped an island although I haven't really been eating much.
Today my stool had about a hundred little white things attached to it. Couldn't identify what it was. Also had a second loose movement that was covered in a mucous. Didn't really explore to see why that was but I've never seen anything like that. Oddly, I've gained a pound.

Saint34 asks what toxins I hope to clean out my body.
Well Saint34 I hope to do two things with the cleanse. First I hope to get the Toxins out of my body and next I hope to put good things in my body to get some of the things missing from my diet.

At the risk of sounding like a commercial, I will explain.
First from my understanding of how cleanses work, toxins build up in your body from everything you eat and drink. This is from pesticides, preservatives, heavy metals, and the prescription and non-prescription drugs you take. There is also a host of unidentifiable substances named in any box of food you get from the grocery that can build up. The tap water we drink is loaded with nasties. This is why I have switched to bottle water only. I have given up all soft drinks and switched to all 100% organic foods. I no longer eat fast foods which are extremely bad for you. These foods are designed to have a long shelf life and are filled with harmful preservatives stuff designed to get you addicted to the food.

Eating a fairly normal American Diet is devoid of many important substances.
We all know that many foods have be stripped of many of there nutritional value. In fact, with the way I was eating, I probably wasn't getting many of the things I need to help my body's natural immune system to work properly. If you notice, this cleanse consists of pills that are loaded with vitamins and many other trace elements missing from my diet. One of the pills even includes an oral Chelator that is proven to get rid of heavy medals in the body. A doctor from Tulane University has written about the benefits of chelation therapy.
http://www.drcranton.com/chelation/carter.htm
Still, many people believe chelation therapy to be quackery. The FDA has come out saying that chelation therapy does not work, yet thousands have used this chelation therapy instead of doing a angioplastic or heart surgery with great success.

Your intestines are the biggest organ in the body.
It they do not work properly, according to many doctors toxins are not expelled properly and build up in the body especially in other organs. When you combine these toxins and other free radicals with an American diet that is devoid of many nutrients and trace minerals, you no doubt assist your immune system in failing. Millions believe in good colon therapy including many doctors. Many people also believe in replacing nutrients with supplements and vitamins.

So far this is what happen to me.
1. I've cleaned out and became regular. This was not my main goal of the cleanse.
2. I slept better the last 2 nights than I have for months.
3. I putting in a lot of trace minerals, green supplements and vitamins and I'm starting to have greater mental clarity. I no longer has a brain fog.
4. I hopped to rebuild the good bacteria in my intestines. I was on antibiotic for 2 weeks that killed all of the good bacteria in me as well as the bad. This led to constipation and a Candida over growth in my body. What makes this cleanse different from other cleanses is adding the good bacteria back to the intestines.
5. In just 5 days, I have broken my addiction to diet drinks and sweets.
6. I haven't had to use nose spray in 3 days to clean out my sinuses. I usually use them every night for over 10 years.
7. I hope to get greater absorption of my food in the intestines. This means that you don't eat as much because body can absorb the nutrients more easily.
8. I hope to loose some weight and not from cleaning out my intestines. I have done colon cleanses before and the last time I did, I lost 20 pounds over a year period without trying. No exercise or major diet change. I went from 230 to 210 by the cleanse and just switching just two things in my diet. No more high fructose corn syrup and no partially hydrogenated stuff.
9. I figured at age 48 and the way that I've treated my body over the years, I would indulge myself for only $150 and see if I benefited like the hundreds of testimonials and personal friends that swear by a good cleanse.

Many here have told me that I've been scammed.
I would like to thank everybody and I'm sure they are just looking out for me. I have done much research on this matter and I feel that what I'm doing extremely healthy. I have followed the directions to the letter.

So far, everything I have hoped for has happened.
I an no longer constipated, I have broken my sweet addiction, I no longer have the urge to drink a two liter soft drink per day and I feel better. I have no desire to eat fast food and my hunger pangs are minimal.

Hopefully it's not all in my head. Well at least I know one thing isn't in my head cause it went down the .... well never mind.

My comments were to others and general comments. teh only comment to you wa about the dino thread. Kari would be a good choice. But something involving poop would be Adams no doubt.

I think LC( and myself) would prefer you list specifics instead of virtually every chemical know to mankind.

One of those unknown chemiclas in your food is EDTA which is the cleating agent. Its also know as sodium lauryl sulfate. its a preservative and its in everything from shampoo to processed food. It is used in lead and mercury poisoning and approved by the FDA for that use. To much is harmful by sucking up iron, zinc and other +2 cations like calcium. Again... do you know how much is in it and how much is safe. you could be very well pooping out your iron and calcium. .

Good point. I already know this.
Yes EDTA does clean out iron, calcium and most all heavy metals including mercury. I have mercury fillings and many believe they cause a host of problems and that you should have them taken out. Many websites state that only 5%-10% of oral chelation is absorbed and a suggested daily dosage of ORAL chelation is 5 tablets of 650mg tablets per day. In addition to the heavy metal cleanse, it tries to clean out the calcium deposits in your arteries which are responsible for blockages in your arteries. EDTA is does kind of a Roto Rooter to your vascular system. According to many websites chelation/EDTA therapy can lower blood pressure and clear arteries.

I know, you can find 10 websites including the FDAs stating that any type of chelation is quackery but thousands have testified of fantastic results. There are many doctors that swear by chelation therapy including one from Tulane University. I have posted that link in another post.

In any case, I can suffer with a loss of iron for a short period,
and I am eating 2 salads per day to make up for this. As for the calcium, that's part of what I'm trying to get rid of in the chelation of the blood which hopefully will help clean out my arteries too. Feel free to post more quackery stuff. There is plenty of it.

By the way, I changed my Avatar to something more appropriate.
