since Sb 6 the award is given when the game ends. In Sb 5 the Cowboys were leading at the end of the 3rd and
had the ball deep in Colts territory to start the 4th. Dallas fumbled, the colts recovered and drove for the tying score.
The Colts eventually won the game.

You're right. I was thinking about the game in New Orleans when Dallas won. But that was the year after Howley won and Dallas lost to the Baltimore Colts.

Yes, the Cowboys beat Miami the following season. The MVP had some controversy as well. The MVP should have been
Cowboys RB Duane Thomas, Thomas had a surly reputation with the media and they were afraid he wouldn't give
interviews after the game. Roger Staubach was chosen instead.
