The most accurate kicker in this years draft with a strong leg being able to kick from 60 yards. I have a feeling that we could end up drafting him in round 6 to compete against Gramatica.

I wish we didn't have to draft him and could offer him a UDFA chance, but if we don't draft him somebody certainly will.

Sorry, I don't believe in drafting kickers. Ever. Name one Super Bowl champion (or even a contender) for whom the kicker was a key player.

Do you think the Patriots, or the Colts, or the Giants, or the 49ers of old, kicked their way to titles? Champs score touchdowns. Sure, a few games are decided by kicks, but most really good teams don't let it get that close. You use a 6th on a kicker, and maybe you are passing on another Marques Colston.

The real problem with long-legged kickers is that they are a temptation. They tempt teams to settle for field goals instead of going for it. That's what always drove me crazy about Jim Mora -- he would play for field goals instead of TDs. If Mora had a Saints team with no kicker on the roster, I think the Saints would have won some playoff games.

I say pass.

Um, New England and Indy have both had some great kickers the last few years. And I believe Vinateri and Gostkowski were both drafted.

I guess I could be wrong though.

That is stupid. Kickers win you as many games as WRs, QBs, and RBs do.
Surely watching Olindo Mare earlier on in last season you must have realised that if a strong legged, accurate kicker was in there the Saints would have won at least 1 more game and poised themselves to win 2 or 3 more.

And the comments of did the Patriots, Giants or Colts kick their way to titles?
Of course they did. Giants wouldn't have won SB XLII had Tynes not kicked the game winner in overtime vs the Pack.
Patriots won their first two superbowl titles due to Vinatieri kicking the game winners as time expired in both games.
In the 2006 divisional playoffs Vinatieri kicked 15 points, the Colts whole total, to send them to the AFCCG.

IIRC the Bills kicked their way out of one. I don't have a problem with drafting a kicker in 6th or 7th if he is a great prospect. With the exception of Colston, those picks are usually not on the final 53 anyway.

Anyone here going to argue with the fact that we SHOULD have drafted Mason Crosby last year instead of the mid/low rounds picks that got cut?

Oh, by the way, he was drafted by the NFCCG-attending Packers.

I wouldn't draft a kicker higher than the 6th round. Unless his last name is Colquitt.

Yeah but we took Mike Hass and Josh Lay in the 6th round of the 2006 draft and gave up a 6th for Olindo Mare in 07. Meanwhile Nick Folk went to the pro bowl as a 6th round rookie and I believe Mason Crosby scored the most points in the league.................

are you serious?

brandon coutu is not as amazing as you guys are picturing. coming from a georgia fan myself, the guy is incredibly inconsistent.

sure he has a powerful leg, but he is not automatic. the guy is not worth a draft pick.

I'm surprised no one is bringing up that this guy isn't anywhere close to being the top rated kicker in this draft.

As a matter of fact, both Mike D and USA Today have him as their 5th rated kickers this year.

That's what I read in a few places. Can't say that I know that myself though, but that's been the word on him...

If it wasn't he would be the #1 everywhere and he's not listed in the top 3 on some boards.
