Brees asks mother to pull his image from her political ads (2 Viewers)

I think to put this as a post to this website was a mistake. What good does it do us fans to bring into the discussion Drew' personal life and apparent dirty laundry? The story was generated out of Texas but is hardly news-worthy. It is probably just political spin from opponents that is being disguised as a news story. But bigger than that, to bring it over here where it may have never been noticed is no help to a team trying to establish a culture of class and integrity is irresponsible. IMO.

Why would anyone want to bring in this kind of off the field distraction?

No really. Why?

What?

This is a Saints fan message board. Anything and everything having to do with our team and its players is up for discussion, period. Why not?

Off the field distractions? Are we suiting up on Sunday?

I answered your question with my statement. read it again maybe.
I said I think it is a mistake.

What would me suiting up have to do with this being an off the field distraction. Media outlets are paid attention to. If it's posted here it's likely to be heard nationally by gametime.

Anybody know anything about Drew's dad? Clearly no mention his mom's web page. So I checked some bios and such, and they all talk about his grandfather being one of the most successful high school football coaches ever, but I saw nothing about his dad. Even his bio from back at Purdue, which I thought was odd. Our athletes' bios at school all have something to the effect of, "son/daughter of _______ and _________, siblings _________. Majoring in _________." But that wasn't on Drew's bio. Just wondering.

Drew's parents were divorced prior to his NFL career. I don't remember if it was before his Purdue years or not. But why does she keep the name Brees? Especially if she is remarried - like another post in here states?

Drew's father is Chip Brees. I don't know much about him, but I do remember an article about Brees in 2004 in San Diego, and the article referred to Brees and his dad (among others) having a post game meal at a restaurant in San Diego.

I deteled previous post. It was acting stange.

Well, Drew's web site has little bit of personal and family info.
I link here again:http://drewbrees.com/meet/bio.cfm

He comes from an athletic family and learned to love sports at an early age from his father, Chip, who played Freshman basketball at Texas A&M, younger brother, Reid, who graduated from Baylor University and started in left field in the 2005 College World Series and grandfather, Ray Akins, who is the fifth-winningest high school football coach in Texas history. Drew and his brother were raised in Austin, Texas after their parents divorced and an estrangement from his mother. He attended Westlake High School where he posted a 28-0-1 record as a two-year starter while lettering in basketball and in baseball. Drew was the Texas Class 5A Most Valuable Player in 1996 and led his high school to a 16-0 record and a State Championship as a senior.

Drew attended Purdue University where he not only met his wife, Brittany, during his sophomore year,

I don't usually like to comment on family matters, but I have to chime in on this one. Drew's parents were divorced long before his Purdue years. I know this because I am a distant cousin of Drew's. I also know that Mina Brees went back to the Brees name after she and her second husband divorced. Drew and his father do have a good relationship from what I have always been told, and if he has issues with his mother, I am more than sure they are justified.

This is an unfortunate situation for Drew, but let's all please remember that it is a personal matter for him to work out, and I am sure he would appreciate the negative comments to be kept to a minimum. Regardless of any issues he has with his mother, she is still his mother, and I know none of the rest of us would appreciate nasty remarks about our mother, regardless of validity.

On a total side note, as someone who has watched the Chargers for the last 5 years while Drew played for them, I can tell you I think the Saints fans are much more loyal and supportive of their players than the Chargers fans I encountered.

9Saintsfan: thanks for your insight. I have followed Drew since his days at Purdue (Purdue grad here). I agree with you about the Chargers fans, I didn't realize the difference until I made my way over here after Drew signed. This is a great site and a great group of people. I see you joined about the same time I did - you should post more often :)

I hope all this political crap doesn't affect Bree's on field production, i'd hate to have to make a trip to texas with boxing gloves to have a pep talk with someone's mom.
