Whats old is new again.

First it was the introduction of commercials in lower priced tiers, just like linear tv!!

And now:

Comcast has partnered with Netflix and Apple to offer a new streaming bundle that includes Peacock, Netflix, and Apple TV+ at a discounted price

Also you can get a bundle of Disney+ Hulu+ Hbo (I refuse to call it "max") at a discounted price

And soon: Disney/Fox/WBD formed a joint venture and will introduce that sports streaming bundle service called "venu"

you will still have to pay almost $200/m for cable that you will not use 90% of the programming.
youtube tv, hulu, etc have local and sports for half what cable will charge you.

I considered "cutting the cord" and came to realize that streaming had become just as convoluted as both cable and satellite. Besides network channels, I probably tune into 10 other channels and that's dependent on the time of year, but I just can't get those single channels. I would have to have multiple subscriptions that are bundled with a bunch of other crap, just like cable/satellite. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

While it's not as cheap as it was years ago, cutting the cord is still cheaper and gives you more freedom than cable/satellite. I think I used to pay over $160 per month for Direct TV like 8 years ago. I don't pay close to that for all the stuff I have now and I can cancel things that I'm not watching to save more money.

I get the argument that you don't want to be bothered with starting and canceling subscriptions and looking for where you can get the content you want, cable/satellite, is easier to use, but as far as price cutting the cord still costs less. But, it's not as good of a deal as it used to be.

Agreed, it may be cheaper now, but I see network providers capping bandwidth and charging more for increased bandwidth. I can't shake the "that's how they getchu" feeling when I think of committing to cutting the cord.

This model they ‘getchu’ with low introductory rates and ‘cancel at any time’ hooks knowing most people will forget and not bother

As soon as I sign on, I set a calendar reminder to cancel the day before rate changes
Then I cancel
(Or for Sirius I listen to the spiel then threaten to cancel until the give the same rate)

ever try to cancel Cox?
you can't do it online and you HAVE to call them. and it will take you at least 30 minutes . and that's no coincidence.
when i had Cox, they capped at 1TB unless you had the 1gig download speed.. which is why i spent over 30 minutes on the phone just to cancel the Internet plan. that was like 4 years ago.

i save Visa gift cards that end up with a couple dollars on them.
when i sign up for free trials that's what i use, so that if i forget, it'll cancel itself.
i have helped a lot of family members get off cable best alternative imo is YouTube tv. the guide looks close to cable and is has all the local channels and sports channels.
most people already have netflix, peacock, paramount, etc so getting rid of cable still saves $100/m
