People do seem to forget, right before Cook's fumble we were about to go up by 2 TD's. Do u think if we beat Tampa by 2 scores and find ourselves in the NFC Championship that people would be complaining this much about Drew's arm strength and pleading for him to give it up?I believe one more year of Drew Brees would be similar to Payton Manning's last year in Denver. Albeit, Drew would put up much better numbers than Payton did. A healthy Drew Brees can still get you 4,000 plus yards, 28 tds, and 6 picks. That would get us to the playoffs. I actually liked our gameplan against the Bucs. The turning point was the Cook fumble. Brees just can't win games by himself anymore. He needs a strong supporting cast. If our defense stays strong it's not out of the question that Brees could get us to another Superbowl. Heck, if it's all about arm strength, I've seen several qb's with cannons for arms screw up in the big game. Defense still wins superbowls.
People would be like we won even though Drew's arm is toast. There would still be a call for Drew to retire. When you say "complaining" it seems to me like you think people are Anti Brees. I don't think that is the case at all. People are Pro Saints and right now Drew's limited throw capability really puts the team at a disadvantage. That CB opposite Carlton Davis bites on the double move. I watched him do it all year. The only problem with that is a QB needs to have decent arm strength. Drew has the accuracy no doubt, but not the strength, thus we were not able to take advantage of that . . . until Winston chunks a 50 yarder . . .People do seem to forget, right before Cook's fumble we were about to go up by 2 TD's. I would want him back. Very unlikely we do anywhere near as well as we have done the past four years with anyone else. Even more unlikely we will do as well next year in my judgment as Hill lacks the accuracy and field vision necessary to be a consistently successful QB and Jameis lacks the judgment and maturity necessary. So no one on the current team is likely to have us even in the playoffs next year except Drew. Any free agent QBs that might be top tier will cost more than Drew does and the success rate of can't miss college QBs that are drafted in the first round is maybe 20% last more than 4 years on anyone's roster.
I hear you. What I meant to say was, I don't think Drew's arm strength would have been such a hot topic if Cook's hold's the football and we go up 2 scores and eventually win the game. Not to say that what people are saying isn't justified.People would be like we won even though Drew's arm is toast. There would still be a call for Drew to retire. I can agree with this. Winning cures everything.I hear you. What I meant to say was, I don't think Drew's arm strength would have been such a hot topic if Cook's hold's the football and we go up 2 scores and eventually win the game. Not to say that what people are saying isn't justified.
It really was. The Harris injury in the Tampa game and also Mike Thomas being hurt, Taysom being unavailable and Drew playing injured was just too much to overcome against a very good Tampa defense with the help of Devin White looking like the Michael Jordan of football for that game.I think the story of the playoffs ending the way it did is/was injuries. Maybe if Thomas wasn't injured basically 90% of the season, and maybe if Drew didn't get injured (twice apparently), or Murray was able to play, and maybe if Taysom was able to play vs Tampa he makes a first down here and there that they failed to convert, and maybe if Harris didn't get injured early on etc. The game very well could have turned out differently but you can only play the hand you are dealt.
I think it is apparent, especially after Drew getting injured these past two seasons, SP built a team to win and make it to the playoffs. But this year (for once) the refs didn't screw the team, it was the injury bug that did them in.
