Can't believe they're still alive thread (1 Viewer)

I STILL have a crush on Michelle Forbes over that movie
I know who she is and she is memorable but right now Swimming with Sharks is the only thing I can name. Maybe I would have seen her recently in Big Sky if I could have made it past 1.5 episodes.

If they list you as a reference for their new company to call, you can give them your opinion. Most people are smart enough not to list references who are going to say bad things about you. Apart from that, yes, just send them to HR.
I 've fired 2 people if my life. An apt description was they fired themselves. The first thing I'd do is look over void and cancellation reports. I'd call the customer and pretend to be a company rep asking about their experience. Were you satisfied? how was the quality? etc. My final question was you paid X amount of dollars. Do you believe it was fair value? They'd say either yes or no, it was too expensive or I got what I paid for. I knew right then either answer proved my suspension. I'd call HR and they'd tell me fire them. We have a good legal dept. we'll take care of the rest.

I have only fired one person ever, and he was the world’s tallest man.

Back in my early 20s, when i was probably too young to be hiring or firing anyone, i managed , for a time, an establishment on Bourbon Street... guy came in looking for a job, and he was 7’9” tall (not a typo).. i thought, This’ll be great- We’ll stick him at the door, nobody will **** with him... Well, as the night progressed, huge crowds were forming on the Street, outside the door, of people who couldn’t believe what they were seeing- to the point where the NOPD had to come by several times to disperse the crowd, so that the foot traffic could continue to move.. Dolly Parton on a balcony on Mardi Gras day wouldnt have attracted these kinds of crowds.. I guess if you combine drunk individuals with a guy who’s almost 8 feet tall, what could possibly go wrong? So at the end of the night, i felt bad, but had to let Big george know it wasnt going to work out... Later he wound up in the Guinness Book.

.

ETA Article says he’s 7’8”, i guess even the world’s tallest man [tm] fudges his height, b/c he told me 7’9” lol

God damn what a story, didn't know that.

I'm sure the company thanked you for catching that stuff. Good job!

I played Little league baseball against a player that was 6'2 when he was 10 years old. My father and his dad were good friends . Modern surgery saved his life. If the surgery wasn't available, he may have became the modern day Robert Wadlow.

It wasn't an easy thing for me to do. I took no pleasure in it. One was the son of a close friend. I called her before I did it. She understood thankfully. I had a great responsibility and had to do it. It still didn't make it easy. I was still dealing with a fellow human being. There is an old saying about a parent spanking their child. This will hurt me more than it does you. I knew then what my mother meant.

Bill Parcells once said the most difficult decision a HC in the NFL has to make is tell a player his career is over from a game he's played since he was 8 years old. Someone who enjoys firing people suffer from mental problems Imo.

For me, President Carter reminds me of a very specific time in life.. when he was President, there were only a handful of people, outside of my own family- whom i could recognize, and seemed ubiquitous in my young life at 3 or 4 yrs old.. In no particular order, those people were: Pope JP2, Elvis Aron Presley (who died around that time so was all over the news), The Fonz, Bob Barker (pre-gray hair) since my mom watched TPIR every day.. oddly Phil Johnson, the editorial legend on Ch 4 who was on our tv every day… and Jimmy Carter, who i only remember as all teeth and white hair…. What a time to be alive .
