Charlotte tailgating information (Oct. 19, 2008) (3 Viewers)

Some of the information in this post is not 100% certain yet. Waiting for a confirmation. I just didn't want to delay the post any longer. I figure with the game tonight the forum will be busy, so I wanted to get the information up as soon as possible.

OK! The long awaited tailgating information thread for the Charlotte game has finally arrived. Once again, it's gonna be a great party. Unfortunately, as previously reported, SaintMike and the Saints bus will not be able to make it this year. However, I have recieved word that another party crew will be showing up to party with us. They will hit the LSU game in Columbia on Saturday, and the Saints game in Charlotte on Sunday. They have a great setup, so this year's party should be as big, if not bigger than last years.

There have been quite a few people inquiring about the keg of Abita we had last year, and wondering if it would be on hand again. The answer is, "Yes!" I have decided to do it again. I think it worked out great last year. No one had to worry about bringing beer -- it was already there. In a continued effort to make things easy on people, we will also have jambalaya for about 75. That means you don't really need to worry about bringing food. What we'll do is have everyone pitch in a few dollars on the keg and the food. How does $5 for beer and $5 for food sound. If you want something other than beer, you'll need to bring that. Also, feel free to bring a side dish if you want. Just post in the thread anything you would like to bring. I think I will go by Sam's club and pick up disposable forks, plates, bowls, & cups.

Who has Saints tents they can put up? I have a large covered tent, but it is not Black & Gold. I'll bring it if necessary, but I'd rather have someone bring a Saints tent.

Now, Let's talk about where the party will be. For those who attended last year, it will be in the same lot. For those who attended 2 years ago, it will be in the same lot. For those who attended prior years, I've lost too many brain cells since then, so I don't even remember where it was back then -- probably pretty close.

Take a look at the attached image. You'll see I277 in the bottom left, with Bank of America Stadium right next to it. Across S. Graham St. from the stadium, you can see I have labeled (in red) the Residence Inn. That is where I will be from Saturday afternoon until Monday morning. Just to the right of the Residence Inn, between S. Mint and S. Poplar Streets, there is a parking lot. I have marked that lot with a big red 'X', and X does mark the spot. The past few years, it has cost anywhere between $20 and $30 dollars to park in this lot, depending on the Panther's record. Since they are doing well this year, it will probably be $30 (if not more). It doesn't matter -- that's where we will be. The further you get from the stadium, the cheaper the lots will be. It's not necessary for everyone to park in this lot, but if you get to town early enough, and don't mind spending that much to park, go ahead and get a spot. It would be great if our group could take over the lot. I expect to have at least one vehicle in the lot the night before. Someone from my group will be in the lot from about 8AM on, depending on how much fun we have Saturday night.

I have youtube videos from the past 2 years. I will post them in the next 2 posts.

Reply to this thread to let me know you're coming. Indicate if you plan to pitch in on beer and/or food. Also, PM me your cell number and I'll reply with mine. That way we can find each other in Charlotte.

Hey JREAD2,

I believe you're talking about the guys I'm with when you refer to the new crew. If anyone has any questions about our setup, feel free to ask me. It's a pretty nice setup. Can't wait to meet everyone!

tailgating setup

Here are some details I recieved on the tailgating setup:
  • 2 tents
  • 2 tables
  • DJ system
  • 2 flat screens with DirecTv and Sunday Ticket
  • 3 fans
  • 1 heater
  • lots of chairs
  • BBQ pit (gas)
  • Cast Iron pot & burner
  • Electric Deep Fryer
  • 2 Generators
  • Lights
  • 3 Flag Poles
  • lots of extension cords
  • probably a lot more that I cant think of.
Some of the individuals in the group will be going in to the game, but some will remain in the lot and watch the game there. This means we don't have to break everything down until after the game. That's good, because we plan to party afterwards -- win or lose. In this case, win.

Also, if you haven't RSVP'd or sent me your cell phone number, go ahead and do it now. If I have your number, I'll send you mine as well. Then it will be easier to link up Saturday night or Sunday morning.

For those interested, we'll most likely be partying at the Champions Sports Bar (I think that's the name of it) on Saturday night. It is located on the ground floor of the Marriott City Center, in downtown Charlotte -- just a few blocks from the stadium. I'm sure we can get them to turn on the 8PM LSU - South Carolina game.

Just about two blocks from there, is a new sports bar that is excellent - BlackFinn. (www.blackfinncharlotte.com). It has a much bigger and better menu than Champions. Also, if you contact them and tell them there is a group to watch LSU, they will most likely setup some reserved tables for you.

Then at that location, there are several other bars you can venture to afterwards.

Ladies and Gentlemen, if things continue to come together for this weekend the they appear to be, this could be the biggest SaintsReport party we've had in Charlotte thus far. And that's saying a lot, because we've had some doozies.

I still remember the days of cooking brats out of the trunk of bigchinguy's Jag.

This year, I would love to see a large group of Saints fan show up early and spend the money to park in the tailgating lot. We need to take over the entire lot! It's not a huge lot, but it right between 2 streets merging together and only a block or so from the stadium. I already know of over 70 people have PM's me and told me they would be there. That's enough to rule the lot for sure.

We will be there around check in time at the Residence Inn and plan on heading to the bar of choice for the LSU game. We will also be at the parking lot for the tailgate party early as necessary to take it over.

What time should one be there to park in that lot? Any idea on the price?

9AM will probably be OK, but I'm going to be there at 8, just to be safe.
2 years ago it was $30. Last year it was $20. This year, who knows? It depends on how well the team is doing. Last year it actually started at $25. A couple hours later they came around and gave
everyone $5 back. They had to lower it to get people in.

Ok.. I have my fingers crossed, but I THINK I just bought some tickets. The section is 518 Row 1 (he said right on the rail) I think these are handicap seats which is great because I cant really climb steps. How did I do?? Are these gonna be good seats??

RSVP for 1 for food and beer....I'll definitely bring liquor and probably some food too (and my new vilma jersey) WOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOO

and if you couldn't figure it out, my avatar is from last year's tailgatin'...and yes I was sober

Im new on here, but Ive been a Saints fan all my life living in Tennessee, I inherited it from my father. Sunday will be my first game, and I am stoked, RSVP me and 2 other folks ready to watch the Saints quite this Carolina crowd....and how could anyone miss an Abita keg in Carolina.
