Chase Daniel talks about being a Saint - Video (1 Viewer)

on a serious note

good young QB to groom. Looking forward to his debut in 2017.

:ezbill:

Real talk... he's always come off as being an arrogant SOB, but some confuse arrogance with confidence.

I like the signing and I hope he sticks.

Is it just me or does he seem to be kinda full of himself? Talking less maybe a good thing for this kid.

He seems like he has confidence in his physical tools if that's what you mean. I'd rather have a guy with that kind of attitude, even a raw prospect on the PS, than a guy who has his own private doubts that he belongs in the NFL.

Thing is, a lot of the scouting reports on the guy compared him to Drew Brees. With Sean Payton as coach, that's exactly the kind of QB coming in and learning the system. Don't get me wrong, I don't think in a few years the board will start calling him Chaseus, but he could very well turn out pretty good.

Wow, for an undrafted practice squad guy he sure has great poise when talking to the media. If he shows anything in practice, he could be moving up to the #2 position really quick. Never seen him play though, and that is what counts.

His last quote: "Better than sitting at home" - what was that?

Daniel talks about his flight getting to MSY at midnight, having to wake for a 6:00 physical, and then going to practice and how it made for a long day. That IS a long day! But... it's better than sitting at home.

I think that's the perks of being a former Heisman candidate; he had to deal with it a lot in college.

I like his poise, and consider him to be "sure of himself," where other folks in this thread have called him "full of himself."

If you want someone who's not sure of himself, we can always bring Harrington back in.

yeah, as qb, especially, you have to have a sure confidence in your ability, other players get that vibe, and you can easily see it on the field. just look at the difference in how the line and wr move about when brunell came in the game, when harrington took that blow to the head.. As a QB you need that.

FWIW Mike Mayock had this to say about Daniel to Times Picayune reporter Mike Triplett during the NFL combine this past February

On the subject of quarterbacks, Mayock said he likes guys like West Virgina's Pat White and Missouri's Chase Daniel, even though both guys don't project as prototype NFL QBs, both hovering around the 6-foot mark.
When asked how important it is for Daniel to measure in at 6 feet, Mayock said it really doesn't matter if he's 5-11 and 7/8 or 6-foot and 1/8 ... "but I'm sure Chase wants to hit 6."
"He's one of the guys that just gets it, whatever 'it' is," Mayock said of Daniel, though he projects him as a backup in the NFL.
• Daniel's success came in a high-powered spread offense in college, which makes him harder to evaluate. But Mayock said that's not just the case with quarterbacks. He said every position is harder to evaluate because of the surge of spread offenses in big-time college football - from skill position players to offensive linemen and even defensive players.

:jpshakehead: Sorry NC, I disagree completely.

He definitely doesn't come across that way to me

good grief, get a life

I think that it is just you. He seemed humble, anxious to learn and yet confident in his own abilities. I think that QB's need to be confident to a certain degree. I wouldn't follow the lead of push over QB.

Not sure what you were seeing or reading into.

He seems excruciatingly humble to me. He didn't get drafted so he feels like he needs to make a hard sale and he is uncomfortable with that posture. Everything he said is absolutely true. He did outperform Colt Brennan, so he has a right to feel perplexed about getting sent to the practice squad. When he said "it beats sitting at home" he's admitting that was a real possibility. I think he is going to work his *** off to keep the job.

:plus-un2: to all the responses to that remark.

I agree. I think all the college spotlight stuff has helped him. We'll see if he really has "it" to become the guy for us when Drew isn't available, but that's AT LEAST a year away from being known. I would say that Brunnell is the guy if Drew needs to sit for any reason this year and next preseason we will find out what Daniel has (if he makes it that long with us).

Although I have to admit that I would have preferred Colt Brennan, I like this kid and hope that he can be the next Payton created superman.

He was thought to be kind of a hot headed punk in college..at least in games vs Oklahoma. But if Payton and the guys want him then that must not be that big of a deal.
