Chase Daniel wants to coach our QBs? (Scott Tolzien hired as QB coach) (23 Viewers)

How do you think someone gets coaching experience? They first have to get a chance to do it🤣
So why should we take a chance on someone that has never coached the position over someone with proven results just to give them their 1st coaching job? I would not mind CKM hiring his brother the OC @ Missouri to be our QB coach

Bc QBs coach is not in depth like the job of an OC. Chase has been around so many QB coaches that he could probably do it sleep walking.
Mike Kafka’s real first coaching gig was QB coach and many on here thought he was the “second coming” and responsible for the grooming of Pat Mahomes. Thus drooling to hire him as HC

Actually Kafka's 1st coaching job was OQC for 2 yrs with the Chiefs before being QB coach. I'd prefer a 1st time young HC surround himself with proven coaches with at least some coaching experience and that the only qualification being he was career journeyman back up QB and that he played for the Saints

I prefer someone with QB coach experience

Yes I know, but OQC isn’t really a coaching gig. It’s more of being a tutor, in a sense, and not actually coaching. Thats why i didn’t even bother to mention it.

Maybe as an Assistant QB coach, sure. But I’m with everyone else; much rather someone that’s done it before at the main post.

Some of the best coaches are former players who didn't have a great career as a starter.
Those who are "born with it" never have to "learn how to". The guys that struggled to get there often have the tools to teach.

If I was Moore, I'd take a chance, but keep an eye on the situation. Everything I've read says that he's no slouch in getting the most out of his QBs.

I'd argue that if you're hiring a QB coach, it would make sense to look at people who've never coached before. Stay with me here, I think it would be akin to Survivorship Bias.

Survivorship Bias is when you erroneously concentrate on only those items (coaches, planes, etc.) that are present to meet a specific criteria while overlooking those that were not based on a presumption that the specific criteria shows success. The bias comes from overlooking the items missing. The classic example, which gave this form of bias its name, is looking at bullet holes on planes that returned from missions and deciding that these are places where planes should be reinforced. However, it's probably more likely that these are places that the plane could take damage and still make it home. The planes that didn't make it back were likely shot in other places. Thus, reinforcement should probably be made to the parts of the returning planes that consistently DIDNT have damage since the planes that didn't return were likely shot there.

How does this relate to the search for a QB coach? This is just a theory. QB coach is usually an entry level coaching position. QB coaches can come from the ranks of offensive analysts or assistants in the college or NFL or on the job experience (former player). Analyst and assistants are there to help the QB coach so they gather experience working with him. Former players have worked with QB coaches extensively as part of their former jobs. So where does that leave teams looking for a QB coach? Theoretically, okay guys, theoretically, QB coaches who have coaching experience and are still being considered for QB coaching positions aren't likely the best QB coaching candidates. The best QB coaching candidates have been promoted. either moved up the ladder to head coaching jobs or Offensive coordinator jobs and are therefore out of consideration. Those who are good and haven't yet moved can't be considered for lateral positions on other teams. So your pool is people with coaching experience who are interested in an essentially entry level position or guys who are moving up the ladder TO QB coach from an analyst, assistant position or as a former player with extensive experience. When you consider the pool of potential coaches this way, it's likely that the better coaches are those who haven't done it yet.
