Opinion Chase Young looks undisciplined (47 Viewers)

Not denying that he had some pressures, but there was almost no upside in signing him as a one year rental in our current cap situation. The dead cap hit he brings to the table in 2025 hurts a lot.

It's been 3 teams now. At some point, it's on the player.

It's always "on the player" but sometimes the right coach can unlock something in a guy or figure out the way to properly motivate him. I suspect Young is going to get a bigger deal than we want to pay, but given the dead cap hit if he leaves, and the fact that we don't have much of anything at DE, I'd be in favor of giving him a reasonable deal to stay. He's probably never going to live up to his talent or to his draft position, but he'd still be the best pass rusher that we have.

At the same point, if the price is too high, I'd be fine letting him go and hopefully getting a draft pick.

We have a top ten pick, so we could presumably get the best edge in the draft. I’ll gladly take that than overpaying Chase who was good for just slightly above average production.

I doubt it. Abdul Carter is almost certainly the best Edge in the draft and he is likely going top 5. And I don't want Scruton or Mykel Williams at #9.

Chase Young is the type of player that Loomis brings in when you let All-Pro's like Zack Baun and Trey Hendrickson walk out the door.

No bend. No move set. Prototypical size, but very little sack production. Reminds me a lot of what we have seen from Chase Young, honestly.
Seems like it’s a deep position this year. Maybe not Williams, but one of these guys could have a good offseason and shoot up the board and make their way into the top ten.

It might be Mykel Williams because someone will talk themselves into "potential." But I don't see top 10 pick on the tape. Jalon Walker pops more on the highlight videos, but I don't know where we'd play him.

Kid is talented and it was not a bad deal to get him on a one year contract, but he can be easily replaced with a draft pick this offseason.
He cost $13 million, 9 of which will be dead cap space next year when he'll likely be playing for another team.

It hurts, but we need to just take our medicine. We shouldn’t be afraid to take pass rushers in the draft just because we missed before. I had high hopes for Young when we signed him, but he was just ok this year.

I agree, we do. But we also have to stop signing / extending guys with stupid void years.

The original deal with the void years was a bad idea, but at this point if you sign him to a reasonable deal without the void years, you can correct the original mistake. But, I suspect he's going to end up getting stupid money because he had all those pressures and teams will bet on his upside now that they know his neck is healthy.

Undisciplined and inconsistent effort were the issues in Washington. I think he is a rotational DE with a bigger name than his production.
