News Chris Olave is cleared to practice and designated to return from IR (43 Viewers)

Olave is his own man, but I would prefer to see him inactive the rest of the way. No need to risk anything in this lost season, and with a young, unseasoned passer nonetheless.

I’m sure it’s hard for him to stay away though.

Yep. I'd honestly love for Olave to be out there with Rattler so we can get a better look at him with actual NFL WRs, but it would be a bad idea. I hope Olave sits out the rest of the year to give his concussion the maximum amount of time to heal before he takes the field again. Both for his own health and the long term outlook for the Saints WR corps.

Totally agree. Worried about his life outside of football which is so much more important. He is a grown man tho, I get it.

It feels almost inevitable at this point that it’s only a matter of time until the next one. Truly worried about his safety, unlike the NFL.

I feel the same, no point in him being on the field this season....rest and heal up.....

Easy for us to say to another man who has been doing this for virtually every year of his entire life and has a potential Lottery Powerball annuity-sized contract on the line. 😂
Dude has already made millions and could easily transition into a broadcasting role which he would make a great living at.

Life is so much more important than millions of dollars.

While it’s a good sign, it really doesn’t tell me much. Some won’t be surprised by this, lol, but I have had countless concussions through years of football. Back when if you knew how many fingers the coach was holding up and you could remember what day of the week it was, you were considered good to go. You can think you feel fine, but something as simple tightening your chin strap and the pressure and weight from the helmet on your skull can cause some serious headaches and discomfort. Not to mention once you start running and blood starts pumping. Can feel like your heart is beating in your temples. Or you even still feel great and someone just pats you on the helmet or back of the head and it feels like you ran into a brick wall.

But all concussions are different. I’ve had some that it felt like a few minutes later was fine and others that you can still feel the effects come and go decades later.

Torn - Want him to play so we can see Rattler with a NFL caliber WR to throw to... Want him to retire so I don't have to watch him sent off on a stretcher again, and end up with long term brain damage...

For the record - I've said before... He should retire. Godspeed Chris.

He sees Tua still going out there, but there are others who have retired due to concussions so there are differing mindsets when it comes to this. It's great that he's been cleared to practice, but like others have said, he really should put more time between his last concussion and the next hit. If he plays this year, you can guarantee the defenders will try to knock him out. They know his head is his weakness and it's an easy way to take one of our last playmakers out of the game. It sucks, but it will happen.

The FO needs to plan on Olave's playing days being numbered. One more concussion and that puts him at 6 which he very well could end this season at if he plays again. He's averaging almost 2/yr now so next year he'd probably end at 8 and if he doesn't stop then, by the time he's 26 he could be at 10 concussions. That is a scary thought.

I hope he bulks up to absorb some of these hits better and hopefully strengthening his neck will help with the quick hits to the ground when being tackled, but none of that is guaranteed to stop the concussions.

He needs to sit out for the rest of this wasted season, and if he comes back at all, he should definitely have one of those bobble-head helmet covers for extra protection

I don’t disagree; just offering some perspective as to why he’s working hard to get back on the field. This young man is on the verge of significantly leveling-up on a life long dream. That second NFL contract is everything to many of these guys.
