News Chris Olave is cleared to practice and designated to return from IR (2 Viewers)

Lotta virtue signaling going on in this thread, good Lord. It's cringey and weird to state what is in someone else's best interest when you don't have any real insight into the severity of his medical situation. We're the peanut gallery - stay in your lane, folks.

It's his life and his health. If he decided to retire, I'd understand. If he feels it's best to sit the rest of the season, so be it. If he is cleared and wants to play, I'll be excited to see him out there continuing to pursue his dream. I can't imagine the Saints are putting any pressure on him.

I don’t disagree; just offering some perspective as to why he’s working hard to get back on the field. This young man is on the verge of significantly leveling-up on a life long dream. That second NFL contract is everything to many of these guys.
His second contract is also not going to be anywhere near what these other guys are making.

Any team would be stupid to give him that contract with his concussion history.

You don't need "real insight" to know the dangers of concussions. And Olave has had FIVE of them.

There are plenty of peer reviewed studies that detail the lifelong and irreversible damage concussions give to the brain. Just like how it doesn't take a doctor to know smoking cigarettes is horrible for your health.

Olave is tough to value with his injury history. Devonta Smith is a similar player who got 3yr - 51M guaranteed extension but signed that contract year 3. I expect we let Olave play out his 4th year and then make a decision. I also think RB and WR values are shifting in opposite directions so waiting may payoff.

Why come back? so, he can get knocked out of the game for a 4th time on the third play of the game?

I said what I said. We don't know the severity of his concussions. Have you reviewed his scans? Spoken with the independent neurologist who cleared him? Ok then.

Most of us who played have had five or more, even if we didn't know it. It's part of the game, and we signed up for it. Paid for a good chunk of my college tuition, and it's paying Olave a LOT more than that. Life is littered with risk, personally and professionally. If he decides the reward is worth the risk, he'll take the field and you'll be cheering your arse off. We get it dude, your heart bleeds for Olave. He'll do whatever he does.

I would not give him a second contract, it's too much risk for a WR who tOSU and other schools churn out yearly. Most WRs in every draft are in the 6' 185lbs range and so many are sub 4.4 now. He's replaceable fairly easy.

Our FO should hold him out for the rest of the season and let him get healthy. If they play him, play him in the last game on a route that keeps him clean. This will showcase his health. Then trade him to a more finesse offense for whatever they can get, probably a 2nd or 3rd since everyone team knows he's 1 hit away from not playing anymore.

So, you don’t like boxing? And cigarettes have vitamin N. Please spare us, did you wear a helmet for badminton?

You’re right. We’re all horrible people for hoping this young man doesn’t scramble his brains for our entertainment.

Your attitude about it makes it abundantly clear that you’ve had too many concussions. Maybe leave this conversation to those with functioning brains.

It's the "he should immediately retire, life is too precious" peeps (who in reality would 110% be happy to see him out on the field) who are getting called out, and they know who they are. You want him to play again too. Just be honest.
