He's not coming back until there bye week at the latest especially if mason continues to play great

That sounds like 49er wish casting. Making up reasons why this is good. No injury to a player is good. No RB on that rooster has the ability like CM.
This will hurt and could cost them tie breakers for seeding if they loose against other play off teams.
