Clyde Edwards-Helaire injured (1 Viewer)

i wouldn't believe any of it until LSU confirms

Yes, waiting for confirmation on his status for the game. He is a critical piece to the passing game (rubs/chips, hot routes, and blitz pickups). If he is out, that's a huge lose for the offense. There is time to adjust, of course, but definitely a significant hit to the team if he can't play.

We can beat OU without CEH, although obviously we'd rather have him in the game. Maybe he'll be back for the championship game, maybe not. We'll have to see. We have good backs behind him. There will be a drop off, but the silver lining is he was being used less for pass pro and more in the receiving game as the season wore on, and pass pro is one of the last things a young RB learns how to do well. The question is, do we have a RB who can run routes and catch the ball consistently and perform reasonably well in that role?

We have 3 of the most highly recruited RBs of the past two cycles on the team. I don't believe talent is much of an issue.

I'll say honestly. I wasn't big on Edwards-Helaire coming in to this season. I thought of him as a good but not great RB, and that one of the younger backs would overtake him as the lead back at some point this season. The spring game didn't change my mind. Neither did the first few games on our schedule.

But then something just seemed to click for him... or maybe it was more me. But he became a deadly weapon for this offense. Maybe it was just that (like Kamara), can make special things happen when given adequate space... and maybe teams having to not only respect, but fear our passing game, helped provide that space. But at some point, and I can't put my finger on exactly when... Clyde simply went off and never looked back.

I think LSU can win and do fine without him. I think one, two, or all three of our young backs can team up and give us a strong running game, maybe even a great one for the playoff run. But LSU won't be as good without him. He's fun to watch.

According to Orgeron CEH is questionable for the peach bowl. I hope he isnt blowing smoke and that CEH can be full go for the title game

We have RBs behind CEH who can rush the ball, certainly, but my question is do we a RB who can be as effective--or at least nearly as effective--in the passing game. That is where CEH has separated himself from nearly any other RB in the entire country at the collegiate level, and it is what has added an almost unstoppable dimension to our offense. CEH can run, do pass pro, or go out on routes and catch the ball all equally well, which throws defenses off balance. How many times in crucial third down situations did we pick up a first down b/c Burrow checked down to CEH when the WRs and TE were all covered, and he was able to pick up the yard to gain? If we lose this, that could result in stalled drives and fewer points. This is my concern. Again, do we have another RB who can assume this role effectively in our offense?

With 10 days to scheme and prep, I think our young RBs will be fine. I'd be more worried about mental mistakes than anything. I don't think any are quite as slippery as CEH, but Price for sure is a powerful runner. He can get those extra 2 or 3 yards at the end of the run that way as well. And just like CEH, they won't be facing stacked boxes like Guice and LF#7 saw in their day. Teams can't play LSU that way anymore. So they should have the ball in space plenty.

Anyway, vs Oklahoma at least, I don't think our offense will have much to worry about anyway. Our passing game is going to blow that Big-12 defense up. The key to this semi-final game will be our defense vs the best offense in the best offensive conference in college football. That and Jalen Hurts... LSU's defense played like a Big-12 defense against Texas. It wasn't until the last couple of games of the season until it started playing like an SEC defense. If the later version shows up, we'll win by double digits, even without our #1 RB.

I know the guys behind him are highly recruited but nobody brings what CEH does. He is an absolute mismatch nightmare and the 2nd most important piece on our offense. He wins 1 on 1 routes and tackle attempts at a rate that is elite and I can't think of a single pass any other RB on the roster has caught past CEH.

just going off pro athlete time tables for hammy, ( and not knowing full severity - so assuming is not a full tear ) i would imagine his availability for NCCG, should be around the time he would be close to 100%.

4 weeks approx.

Hopefully. Id love to see what Emery can do on a swing pass with the closest LB to him is 8yds away.

The one that matters is Perkins. His absence will help will help us in the fight to dominate the LOS. The other two are backups, so probably wouldn't have had much impact on the game anyway.

I'm afraid you're right. I am really hoping CEH can play in the championship. I don't think OU has enough defense to stop us even without him, but tOSU or Clemson is another story.

Murf Baldwin has a good breakdown of Emory and Davis-Price and predicts Davis-Price will be the main back if CEH can't go against OU.

I have a lot more confidence with Davis-Price than I do Emory but again, neither of these guys bring what CEH does to the game. Put these guys in the slot and a safety has the advantage and a decent LB at least has a chance. Put CEH in the slot and he eats either alive. That is just so rare at the college level.

Go back and listen to Kirby Smart talk about the LSU offense before the SEC Championship Game. The guy was drooling over CEH, even said he is what makes it impossible to cover the back end. Commit enough guys to stop the intermediate and deep balls and CEH kills a team underneath.

I'm not saying Davis-Price can't do it, it's just so uncommon for an underclassman with no experience doing it. The good news about all this is it allows a few weeks of practice to try and get him up to speed.

As for Emory goes, I know he is a 5 star but I've never quite understood why. His tape just never has jumped out at me as a 5 star type guy. Hopefully I'm wrong here.

I'm hoping CEH will be healthy enough to play. The young running backs can run the ball well enough but they are nowhere near CEH when it comes to receiving and pass pro....LSU's offense will be alot less dynamic with him out....but I believe they can still win...

O says he day to day and possible ready for Saturday
