My wife and I are scheduled for an International "1 stop" this Saturday with Air Canada.
First we Fly out of Philadelphia International on Air Canada Express.....arriving in Toronto less than 2 hours later
*
3 hours and 15 minutes after arriving in Toronto's (YYZ) Airport we are scheduled to get on another Air Canada flight to our ultimate destination which is Copenhagen Denmark.
*
So, here is the reason for my OP thread: What happens once we arrive at Toronto and step off the plane?
GOOGLE search results say that our bags are checked thru and we just have to walk through the airport and find our next gate.
My Travel agent agrees that the bags should be checked thru ( and we better make sure) but she says we'll have to "go through security, customs, etc".
Are the Google search results correct or is the Travel Agent correct?
I told the Travel Agent: "I KNOW we'll have to go through everything in Copenhagen Denmark but in Canada we are not really ENTERING Canada, we are staying in the airport and just connecting to a new plane."
She didn't back down but said "usually you WILL do "security, customs, etc. in BOTH countries".
*
So there you have it. Two completely different answers. What say all of you?

Newark didnt have a direct flight to Copenhagen?

Seeing as you are "transiting" thru Toronto on way to Copenhagen, most likely they ( Canada ) have some sort of "pass thru" but im not sure.

But all im reading is yes you will have to pass thru Customs in Toronto on way to next gate to travel to Copenhagen

In answer to your first question. We chose to pay less for the one stop flight. Yet now I have questions to resolve before the travel begins.

It looks like you have an abbreviated entry process into Canada - but you don't have to get your bags and then re-check them, they will check through.

Per AirCanada:
Please ensure your Canada Customs Declaration Card is completed prior to deplaning.

You do not need to claim your checked baggage.

  1. Follow purple signage for Connections and E Gates
  2. Take escalator down to Canada Customs.
  3. Enter your details at one of the self-serve kiosks. Once complete, present your Customs Receipt along with your documentation to a Border Services officer for verification.
  4. Once you clear Canada Customs, you DO NOT need to retrieve your checked baggage.
  5. Follow signage for E Gates and proceed to your departure gate

That was such a helpful response. Official guidelines makes me feel confident that it is accurate. Thanks very much!šŸ˜ŽšŸ˜Š

It's the same as me (from Toronto) flying to Detroit and connecting to the 2nd leg of the trip. Bags are fine and customs is a breeze with your tix and passports. Nothing to see here folks.

#1 No Immigration....just Customs...correct?
#2 How about the CARRY ON thingee? That needs to be rescreened again?

Depends if you have to leave security to go to another terminal. Often, yes, for international flights.

I guess we won't know until the day/night we travel.
In Philly they will give the boarding pass for Toronto to Denmark.
Only then we will know?

Chances are, NJ to Toronto will already be in whatever their international terminal is, so I would say it's unlikely. However, it's been a while since I"ve been to Toronto.

If you donā€™t like traveling with a bunch of clothes and toothbrushes in your carry-on, use a credit card with baggage delay coverage. If the bag is delayed more than six hours, you get $200 to buy sheet.
