Are you saying the aluminum doesn't allow the sun to get through and mess with the beer?
Yes I am saying that.

Lined aluminum cans are by far the best way to effectively package beer for longevity and freshness. No light, no oxygen.

And while it's true that light (sunlight in particular) is not good for beer, if you think about it, bottled beer is shipped in sealed boxes in unlighted trucks, so honestly except for the 48 hours it's either lit by florescents in the beer cooler or when you leave it in the sun in a bucket of ice, it's probably not going to have much of an effect.

(this is an edit, Scoripius) - and bottles do not seal against air (oxygen) intrusion (particularly twist offs) which is the biggest factor in making them worse than cans.

Aluminum is a better package for longevity and freshness over a glass bottle? Wouldn't they both be about the same?

I'm a fan of VA beach. I got married there.
We go there every July. We actually stay south of VA beach about 30 minutes. Less touristy down there and we like the campground there. We go July 5-27 this year. We go to PA June 30-july 4th first so we'll be gone from home a month.

Here we go.....this is a debate I've heard happen dozens of times. I probably align with your view and think the difference is probably so small no one would notice either way but psychologically bottled beer tastes better to me. My working theory is a thick glass bottle gets colder and stays colder longer than thin aluminum. All that being said I drink bottled beer about once a year. There's just more downside to bottles vs cans

Just saw that and I was wondering about it because I can see how the sealed can could be more air tight, but what about bottles you need a bottle opener for? Aren't those better sealed?
Better than twist off, but not better than can. But the difference is small. You will have a higher failure rate with bottle caps.

So for long storage, go with cans. For more immediate concerns, it doesn't matter. Didn't you say that bottles are bad for recycling or some other reason?

Aluminum cools faster but also warms faster because of it's conductivity. Either will only get as cold as its environment.

I agree that drinking out of a bottle is better than a can, but a glass beats both, and I usually do that. If I'm drinking out of the can/bottle, it doesn't matter at that point anyway.
