Yeah, I think the fast food places are thriving just doing the drive through, but there's no way dine in restaurants are getting enough take out traffic to even break even.

For those holding up Sweden as the way we should go/have gone:

Absolutely. One of my favorite places, which is family owned and operated, has had to go down to 4 days a week so they can make money to pay their bills doing other jobs the other 3. They have had take out available the whole time but say they have still seen a 75% drop in revenue (although tips per order are way up).

Some of the local restaurants around Mid-City New Orleans are doing really good things for the community and will have my long term support. Toups' Meatery has been giving away meals to people who need them, particularly those in the food service industry and I think Blue Oak BBQ is doing the same. I've tried to order from then when possible to help support them. They certainly deserve it.

I would bet that others are doing this as well.

Good to see that Orleans parish has had back to back 0 deaths and a pretty large drop today when it comes to people in the hospital. And “only” 200
new cases in Louisiana. Which must have been the lowest in a very long time. This is definitely far from over, but happy to see those

I had to help my pops file for unemployement(Furloughed) over the computer and that laworks website is an unmitigated shirtshow of design. Someone at the state level should have made something specifically designed to quicken the process to file covid-19 claim benefits.

That was 45 mins of the biggest BS since this all happened that I've experienced thus far.

Good find. And this little stat was an eye opener.

Deaths per million
Sweden301
Denmark89
Finland46
Norway40

When comparing apples to apples, this leaves no doubt about the effectiveness of mitigation. Sweden taking the herd immunity approach is learning a hard lesson and their economy is now getting hit harder than their neighbors.

Trying that here, every large metro area in the US would have looked like, if not worse than NYC.

Not in New Orleans. In New Orleans we take out the knives for our politicians as soon as a crisis hits. :)

Of course, that was clearly justifiable with Nagin, Jay Batt, etc. after Katrina. And, to some extent for LaToya Cantrell. Although I think a lot the Cantrell stuff is more based on her history of errors, ineffectiveness, and tax evasion, than anything specific in her handling of COVID. (Although I know some have specific issues with the COVID handling but I don't want to get into what was done right and what was done wrong.)

You can toss her husbands reputation in there as well.
