I think navigating relationships of any kind at any age is annoying af but for different reasons. When you're young and dumb, you're more open to more people but prone toBS, so opportunities abound. When you're older and wiser, you are more likely to have a quality relationship but you have to do a lot more work to get there because you know better.
We've got to sift though a lot more dross to get to the gold. The hope is we don't give up before the sifting is complete.

No Terps

dross is the waste from smelting, I believe
No sifting
I believe the imagery he’s using for gold would be panning
The similar metaphor for sifting would be wheat/chaff, no?
On a higher level dross is emblematic of impurity and gold represents the pure. Dross is typically removed by heat, then skimmed (sifted, if you will) and the gold remains.

At any rate, you get the idea. To use another metaphor, it's like searching for a needle in a ******-******* haystack.

I may just light the whole ******* thing on fire and make my search easier. Or I may just burn it and walk away.

And now you have a barn of hungry cows
The answer is obviously magnets

I hope I never have to step foot in this thread and add my own story. It's been several rough years for my 17 year marriage (second). Doing everything I can to not be single rolling into my mid- late 50s. (Maybe I need to find the marriage advice thread).

It sounds awful out there and I hate being alone. Good luck/blessings to everyone here.

The key to that is to not let other misfortunes bring you down but absolutely learn from other’s experiences. Not every relationship is the same and should not be treated as such. Sometimes you may throw up your hands and the answer is right in front of you.

Hating being alone is a reason all enough to end it unless you really love the person. I know those that hate being alone and it never ends well for them. You need to be ok with being alone for a reasonable amount of time at least
