David Carr to visit Saints... (1 Viewer)

I really thought he was the better QB coming out of college. After he pretty much did nothing in Houston I attributed it to a bad situation and tried to look at the positives (like completing 68% of his passes his last year in Houston). Then he goes to Carolina and I thought he had a great shot at playing and doing well. Well he didn't.

Personally if I had to choose between Brunell and Carr I would lean towards Carr. He was very talented coming out of college, he is young and if Payton thinks he can be a quality backup then so be it.

Personally I think we should look for a young backup to groom in the draft (and no Tyler Palko is no where close to being that guy).

Ughhhhhh........

Pretty funny ... when I read the thread title, I actually said that out loud.

Going into last season, I thought Carr would be solid in Carolina ... thought that he was bad in Houston because of lack of protection. Come to find out that Houston's protection was so bad because of Carr.

If we sign him, I've got some faith that Payton and Brees could help him out a bit. But I don't really want to take the risk of him just plain stinking it up. One of the reason for our low sack totals is because Drew gets rid of the ball so quickly. At times, Carr seems like he never gets rid of the ball.

and we have only given up 35 sacks in 2 years. He had almost three times that many his rookie year alone!!

Much of that is due to a QB that can get the ball out quickly. Something that David has never been able to consistantly. I also seem to remember reading that a knock on him is that he's a "me first" kinda player.

I still think about his ridiculous "Te fans were chanting more, because they wanted more points." when obviously they wanted third stringer Matt Moore.

LMAO

has there been any news on brunell's visit.

one thing about Mark is this: he is an extremely religious person, much like Danny and Kurt. How would that mesh in NOLA? Danny has full time ministery in NOLA and maybe that would be a plus. Or maybe he takes a tour and see's how in some parts of town the criminals have taken over and leaves disgusted. I don't think there's much middle ground for him.

Why not Harrington instead?

Hmm. Oh well, maybe Payton and Brees can turn things around for the kid and we will get our future.

I'd rather Brunell all day and everyday...

But if we do indeed sign Carr. Bright side is that Payton is a QB guru, so he could fix up his mechanics and Carr could get decent advice from Brees as well. Also, Carr would HAVE a O-line here in NOLA with some weapons around him.

I'm not sure about all that.

I think Brees makes any O-line better. He makes quick decisions, has great pocket awareness and gets the ball out quickly.

All else being equal, sacks will go down with Brees back there. I'm not saying our O-line is not good at pass protection because they are. Just that Brees is a factor here also.

You put Carr back there and sacks will go up. Maybe not dramatically, but they will go up.

Don't have much faith in this. Maybe an ego project for Payton to see if he can resurrect his career.
