Derek Carr appreciation thread (1 Viewer)

The Saints played complimentary football. All units executed. When that happens, you don’t need crazy stats to win. I loved the efficiency we showed today. The execution was almost flawless, which is about the best outcome you can expect.

In Carr, I saw a leader. The system is the real MVP. KK put his men in the best situations for success.

Pretty solid take. We'll see how well KK will do the rest of the sesaon.

As I see it, Carr has done everything he can to win over his team and the fans. Sometimes a guy just has to be put in the right situation to have everything work out as hoped. The new offense has breathed life into him and our offense. He may now have what he needs to excel here just as we all hoped he would! :9:

FOSTER MOREAU’S TOUCHDOWN PASS WAS THE BEST PASS BY A SAINT SINCE DREW BREES.

That was an elite throw right over the defender. Bryce Young couldn’t make that throw in his dreams.

Also Johnson’s TD was a perfect throw.

Good for him and excited to see what they can do against Dallas.

Yes this system fits him much better, but he was very sharp today, ball placement was damn near perfect. That bomb to Shaheed while the defender was in his face was amazing. And that TD to Foster was perfect and vintage Drew Brees
I'm not taking anyting away from DC. Like you, I think the bomb to Shaheed was unbelievable. The point I'm trying to make is that DC was set up to fail with the previous OC and system. When you put a guy in the right position then you see what they're made of. Also, being healthy helps. Too many "Saints fans" dumped on him last year when the guy was laying it on the line playing hurt. QB's with shoulder injuries normally don't just "play through it" at an elite level. It was blatantly obvious last year when he started feeling better.

I have been saying from day one that DC can be a top 6-10 QB. He just needs a decent to good OC and a competent OL. And for posting that opinion I've taken more flack than a WW2 bomber plane surrounded by German Messerschmitts with full magazines
Right there with you. I'll go a step further and say that DA has taken a lot of BS too. DA was given a roster that was loyal to Sean, an OC that wasn't competent on his own, he was handcuffed by a GM's kick the can strategy from Sean and Drew's last seasons, etc. I'm thankful to DA for holding things together through this very difficult transition and blocking out the noise. He has the Saints in a decent spot considering the challenges that still remain.

He still has to prove consistency against the better teams. But I was most impressed by the ball placement. Was almost Brees like. Receivers didn't have to reach or slow down for the ball as usual. I'm sure they loved that today.

Yeah that was nice to see. Relieved a lot of fans.

Big upgrade even over the end of last season. Ball placement was heaps better than last year.

Looked good today. Keep it up.

Props to Carr (and DA). He was excellent today. It’s nice to have an OC that understands his limitations and puts him in a position to succeed. What we saw today was everything I hoped we’d get when we signed him.

That being said, appreciation threads after one game, against a terrible team, are premature. Let’s hope today’s performance continues, particularly against defenses that can stop the run.

Nothing premature about expressing appreciation for a job well-done. It's not like anyone's saying this is how it will be every game.

What's wrong with giving credit where credit is due?

Carr looked better today than he has at anytime in the black and gold. He went through his progressions to his third option a few times and he was attempting to look off defenders. I saw none of that last season.

I been one of his many critics since last season. Today he looked like a QB you could feel confident in. He needs a solid performance next week to say this week wasn't a fluke.
I think we have a good chance

Nothing, which is why I also praised him. Was more the showing the doubters sentiment and top 6-10 QB shouts that are premature and a bit reactionary after 1 game. Need to see more for those things to be true.

Good point

He played great. Looked like what we thought he would look like when he was signed.

I think the Pete Carmichael years held a LOT of players back. I saw those confusing and weird play designs. I also saw Carr make plenty of poor reads on throws....but how much of that is just a scheme that makes no sense? I was super hard on Carr last year, but I mentioned a few times that he gets a clean slate this year in my book. Game 1 he looks amazing.

At the least we have a competent OC this year and the system seems to fit Carr and our personnel much better.
