Derek Carr named NFLPA Community MVP (5 Viewers)

Derek Carr is a very, very good human being and a generous one at that.

His issue in New Orleans is that he followed Drew Brees. Brees raised the bar in New Orleans to an almost impossible height.

Dalton, Siemien, all the other band aids were stop gaps until the "next great QB" came through. Carr got that unenviable position and it unfortunately has not come close to that of Brees on the field.

No one wants to be the man to follow the man.

Look, not taking anything away from Carr but him giving 45k is like the average person giving 800 bucks. It helps, but it’s not Mother Theresa type work.
Its not about how it impacts him, its about how it impacts the people he's giving it to. I'm sure the 5k was a world of a difference to the people he gave it to. I make a decent wage and it would be a full 10% of my salary, so I know it must've made a big impact on some less fortunate. SO, it doesn't count unless its big enough to hurt the person making the giving? Besides, thats just what he gave away that day. Do you think thats all he's given?

$45K is $45K.

That is money he could have used on himself or his family that he chose to give away...

I don't give to charity and have the cameras there to make me look good. Sorry, I think the dude is fake. But that's just one mans opinion.

That's awesome, actually. You were able to see the players humanize themselves in a way few could. And it just seems to have been more genuine an act before the internet and social media. Fewer avenues of communication meant each of those events really had to mean something.
I don’t think the players are more disingenuous now because the press and publications arm of the team has more ground to cover. That’s attempting to justify a preferred outcome.

This was an NFLPA award. I bet nobody here can name, without searching, last week’s winner or the last Saints player to win it.

I thought the cameras and TV crews that just happened to be there while he was graciously giving away money was source enough................

What cameras and TV crews? I see no video or pictures of the event. Schefter even had to use a generic picture of Carr in his uniform in the Tweet he sent.

This is absolutely insane. The NFLPA honors someone every week, but its Carr whose fake and not anyone else honored? I guess to be consistent, you have to say Demario Davis is fake for his work he did with the Covenant House beds donation, because he got the same award for that in Week 8.

Incidentally, there were no cameras or media coverage at the event where he donated the money, the only coverage is because of the recognition by the NFLPA, so how can u say He had cameras there to make him look good?

Derek Carr is not the future, but he certainly isn’t the problem. You give him an elite offensive minded coach and he can do good things and win 10+ games plus give you a chance at a SB run depending on the rest of the roster.
