Deuce Update (From ESPN) (1 Viewer)

I get a feeling every time I check the forum lately that the SSF page is going to load up and I'm going to see the "Deuce McAllister has been cut" thread. I'm dreading it.

Alleman got abused by camp body DTs last preseason. He spent a lot of PT getting pushed into the Saints backfield. I watched him carefully last preseason with the hope he'd be the next Jhari Evans. I came away with......I just hope somewhere down the road he can contribute. He's a project. After last preseason his best shot at the NFL might be at Center but counting on either him or Jermon Bushrod as anything more than depth would be a mistake. I hope I'm wrong but I'll put it like this - if Alleman is twice as good this preseason as last he'll be a marginal NFL backup.......

He did get abused last preaseason, I remember watching the O-line and seeing this guy just get handled, so I checked his number cause I just knew he was a camp body...and low and behold it was Alleman, are 3rd (4th) round Steal?

If what you're saying is true then G should be a high priority this off-season, which means signing a good veteran or drafting an OG in round 1-2......which I'm sure no one wants to hear.

No, you don't. You can draft a guard in round 6 and get a productive starter. Jahri Evans was round #4, for example.

I think they do want a new guard to replace Nesbit, so while Faneca may not be the choice, I'd be surprised if the Saints don't bring in a vet to compete with the guys they already have... and a low round draft pick is still an option.

Alleman was a third round pick. Bushrod was a fourth. Both guys are projects but I really like Bushrod's size (6' 5", 315 lb) and athletic ability. Alleman's listed at 308 lb. but was less than 290 lb. during the draft last year. So maybe he's bulked up. We'll see but from what I saw last year it's a scary thought to be depending on either guy to play a bigger role........

The staff was completely surprised by Evans. They did not expect him to come in and start from day 1. To go into an offseason and say "we don't need to address our starting G position until Day 2 of the draft" is very irresponcible. Sure you can find a G in round 6 that could eventually start for a team, but not there rookie season and from all reports I here and my personal opinion, this team is ready to make a deep run in the playoffs. A 6th round rookie G isn't who I want protecting Brees and opening holes for our RB's.

If Nesbit does not get re-signed, which I hope he doesn't, we will have to sign a starting caliber G or draft one high....anything else would prove this staff is not on top of things.

Of course all of this is assuming Alleman isn't the guy.

The only one that could be worse is "Deuce McAllister signs with the Atlanta Falcons" :covri:

Why would they want him? I don't see how they would offer him substantially more in a contract than we could in a renegotiation. I think that team would be better served to go with youth to team up with Jerious Norwood. They have much more pressing needs than to stick it to the Saints, I would think.

I am sorry I didn't mean for the post to be taken seriously I should have placed a :kidding: on the end I suppose

This is why I think if Alleman isn't the real deal, we will either get a Guard in FA or high in the draft. We have to get better at run blocking or we are waisting our most dangerous player.
Here's your man, Andrew Crummey from Maryland. Can likely be had in the later rounds. #11 OG out of 177. We don't need to draft too high to get an OG at the moment, but he'd be a great fit.

My guess is that 50% of Saints fans would commit a "Mass Ritual Suicide" if that ever happened!
