Dez Bryant almost ready to start reaching out to teams (1 Viewer)

Why the heck not? He could fall down off the line of scrimmage a dozen times with the ball batted his way, and have as many yards, catches, and TDs as LJH, Carr, and Kirkwood have combined on the season so far... I mean seriously... what's the downside?

Mike might not like the drop off in targets.

Who says the Saints need another wideout to catch 4-5 passes a game when Brees spreads the ball around to so many different receivers already?

I just don't see the need to bring in a player who hasn't been in the system and would have to be brought up to speed and would have to establish a chemistry with Brees. At this point in the season that very rarely ever works.

Right now the only people I see who are "desperate" for the Saints to bring in another wide receiver are Saints fans who think it needs to happen because I don't think the Saints are feeling that same desperation.

Meh...there were reports that they were actively looking at the trade deadline. I take that as they're looking at adding a WR if they can find the right guy.

I think that this would actually increase his targets because the defense would have someone else to worry about and not be able to double cover MT.

Mike is getting 12-15 targets, and 6-8 other players get a target or 3. Since Drew is throwing about 35 passes, it would be hard to target someone like Dez more than 4-5 times a game. I just don't see him making an impact, even if he is in good shape. Now,,, if Dez can still get RAC, that's different. But I doubt that.

Aslong as we got Austin Carr to cut... Sure

Brees loves Carr for whatever reason. From what I read he openly campaigned for Carr to make the 53 man roster. It certainly can’t be for what he does on game days. He does little more than occupy a DB.

As far as Bryant goes......if he had anything left in the tank or could pass a physical he’d already be on some team’s roster. I get it - CGM needs help and the rest of the team’s WRs production has been pathetic but Loomis, Ireland, and Payton know they’re doing. If they thought Bryant was the answer he’d already be signed. I seriously doubt Bryant ever plays another down in the NFL.

If he had something left in the tank, I'd love to see Dez come back to NOLA. Unfortunately, I'm worried that Father Time's caught up to him.

Maybe injuries have slowed him down but age-wise he is 31. AB 31, AJ Green 31, Julio Jones 31 for example. Guys can still play at high level at that age, it's more have injuries taken their toll where he can't be productive at some capacity. He already mentioned he isn't trying to jump on a team and be a starter so If you think he is better than your 3rd option it's worth a look..

We are in more need of a WR now than last year when he was signed. We will see.

I'm not sure this is correct. I mean, if you're going strictly by players listed as "wide receivers", then yeah.
But our offense has never really been that big on labels. I mean, we had a tight end file suit that he was actually a WR because of his role in SP's scheme.

Our pass offense looked more than fine this past week vs Arizona. And that was without our RB#1, TE#1, and WR#2or#3.
AK, Cook, and Smith are reportedly back from injury now, or will soon be.

Drew said it himself. AK and MT are going to get targets on top of targets until a team proves they can shut them down. If/when that happens, then other players will get more targets. So even if we'd have picked up a guy like AJ Green or Emanuel Sanders... They would not bet 6 to 10 targets a game like they would in Cinci or SF.

The only valid case I can see for "needing" a WR would be for insurance for Michael Thomas.

373 yards and 3 TDs without three of our most important offensive weapons pretty much proves this point.

I don't know why people are so against this?!

He wouldn't be coming in to be a number one, he knows where he stands at this stage in his career.

I see nothing wrong with him being brought in. Imagine a crucial 3rd down with him, Thomas, Kamara, Cook. Teams wouldn't just NOT cover him. They'd still have to respect who he is.

I say go for it!
The best way to put it is like this: Whichever WR we cut to make room for him likely wouldn't even be picked up by another team.

The offence looked unstoppable the first 10 games of last year, until defenses started to figure out how to slow down MT and AK. We either need a legit #2 wide receiver or we need JC to step up at tight end or both. Heaven forbid we get injuries at the #1 WR position.

I think we can all agree that OL injuries were more the reason for our offense's funk than lack of weapons.

Go look at last week's box score... drew spread the ball around just fine. Now we're getting 3 of our top weapons back in the mix.

Outside of losing MT for any length of time, I think we're fine as is. And I feel like somehow wed be okay even if we had to sit Thomas. SP is on another level this year.
