I was reading somewhere else about the nightmare of the German healthcare system
Is it just layers and layers of bureaucracy?
What’s the deal?

i think his situation was more from a legality standpoint vs actual healthcare ( the birth of his child by surrogate in Georgia - the country lol )

Living here in Asia is so easy, sometimes it seems *too* easy… i usually get their version of UberEats (here it is called GrabFood) i usually get them to deliver to my condo twice per day.. sometimes 3x per day.. usually it costs me from $4-$7 per meal , depending on how much food i get .. lately I’ve been getting tired of schlepping the half block to 7-11 for bottled water a couple times per week, so today i decided to use the same app , GrabFood, for delivery from the supermarket .. got a large bottle of water as well as some sodas and an afternoon snack .. i realize this is no different from apps back home like DoorDash, which i never utilized outside of pandemic lockdowns- but to me those seemed expensive.. my delivery fee today was 40 cents .


Since ive been here i have been averaging over 7,500 steps per day, to keep that up im gonna need to make a conscious effort to go out for stuff and not let myself get too lazy lol

Not to get in the way of your steps but you can also use Grab to schedule a delivery for things like prescriptions. Just tell the store on whatsapp or line then schedule grab to go get it. Cheaper than a taxi or tuktuk to get it yourself.

No. You can't even imagine how good it is. Even with it's "problems" it's about 1000 times better than any health care I ever had in the USA. Whoever said that doesn't know what they are talking about, IMO.

There is almost no bureaucracy. Doctor says I need it. I get it. End of story. No co-payments or deductibles. No networks. Prescription meds free and/or super cheap. If that's a nightmare then sign me up for the nightmare. I was and still am really blown away by it. Of course, Germans talk about it like it's garbage, but that's because they have never really experienced a bad health care system. I have a few friends who always dreamed of living in the USA until I told them what the healthcare system is like....lol.

I also get 30 paid vacation days a year plus public holidays. It's the norm.

Germany decided that my child was illegal and tried to take custody of him. This is why we are leaving. IMO, they are cruel people with zero compassion. I can't live here anymore....don't care how good the heath insurance is haha.

Thanks, at my advanced age i am fortunate to not be on any prescription medications…. Although as a lifelong insomniac , a couple weeks ago I decided to try a CBD gummy.. not to be confused with a THC edible, the stuff i took was relatively weak.. well i woke up in the middle of the night in cold sweats, it had the exact opposite effect of a good night’s sleep- wont be trying that again.. i will stick to my Benadryl-type OTC stuff as well as an herbal supplement i take for sleep .

Nope, does not do a thing .. i do take an herbal supplement i get from amazon that works really well, and it does contain melatonin- but it also has magnesium , L-theanine , passionflower, valerian, ashwaganda and some other ingredients.. not sure which of those does the trick for me, or just the combination- but i have many times tried melatonin alone and does nothing .

I have some skin cancer on my lower eyelid. I was going to get it wiped out in Thailand but the trip got cut short by fires/winter storm.

Spent most of Friday calling around to dermatologists. What would have taken less than an hour and less than $100 in Thailand is simply not feasible here. Earliest appointment I could find was mid March, every place required a consultation which nobody would price but general expectation is $250-$500. Then I would have to make another appointment after the consultation. The actual procedure would be between $500-$3500 and I wouldn’t get a price until after it is completed.

I’m flying to Mexico to get it done. Way cheaper even including first class airfare and can get it done same day.

Also, each time I come back from Asia or Europe I realize how much police we have the anxiety that used to go unnoticed. Its really quite crazy.
