Do you think we will ever see the day where the Saints will have a lifetime winning record (1 Viewer)

30 years ago I would have said it’s impossible that it’s too far gone .

But since 1987 they have been chipping away nicely

403-460-5

57 games under 500

Can they pull that off in the next 20 years ?
Outside of a few rough years 96-99 and 2005 the Saints have always fielded a team that won at least 7 games since 87. Not too many teams can say that.

It's the lack of postseason success outside of the Superbowl in 2009, that makes N.O seem less good than they actually have been.

It's weird, I am more interested in having a winning record against our division rivals than having a winning record in the NFL, especially the Failcons. It's crazy

I was thinking about this the other day. It’s incredible to me that the Saints as an organization is now only 57 games under .500 at this point.

Think of how putrid the Saints were for so many years - from 1967 - 1986 , they never finished a season above .500. That’s 20 years of losing more than they won.

The team was historically the laughingstock of the league. Watch old broadcasts of the NFL from the 70s and early-80s and see how the announcers and studio analysts talk about the Saints. Watch old NFL Films from that era and see how the franchise was viewed.

The Saints were basically the Washington Generals to the NFLs Harlem Globetrotters.

So to think that since 1987, the Saints have basically been a .500 team - which is pretty good overall considering that stretch had a couple of really rough patches.

And every time I read or hear that we have one Super Bowl win, I can't help my knee jerk reaction that we would have at least three (2011, 2019) if not for NFL interference, not to mention the Roger debacle that was 2012. I know some will come back at me and say I really can't know we'd have won those two games, but it's pretty obvious to me that we would have.

EDIT: If I added correctly we are 313-264 from 1987 to today, which is 24.5 games above .500. I believe that it .542 overall. Pretty impressive, especially considering there were three 3-13 seasons in that stretch.

Average 10 - 7 seasons for 20 years? Maybe, but I will probably be dead by then so no.
