Do you think we will ever see the day where the Saints will have a lifetime winning record (3 Viewers)

When I was in high school, I was the only one I can remember who owned a Saints starter jacket. During that time, being a Saints fan was worst than being a Lions fan. I remember one of my friends saying "we've loss so many games, even if we go undefeated for 3 years, we'd still need 30 years to hit .500." This was in the 90s. I feel like going over 500 in my lifetime would be so emotional to me. I loss so many family members who loved this team but died only knowing us being bottom of the barrel. My kids were born in 04, 05, and 08. All they know is stability. Those fans from the 60s-90s saw so much losing and instability. I wanna give Randy Meuller some props for the playoff win, but Mickey came in and winning started feeling normal. I think we get over 500 in less than 20 years.

if it helps, the Saints and Carolina have pretty much the same % and the Falcons are below us and the Bucs are dead LAST...

Given my age (54), I doubt that I will be alive to see the Saints reach .500, but I am glad that the last 20 years have mostly seen us be competitive/successful.

Outside of a few rough years 96-99 and 2005 the Saints have always fielded a team that won at least 7 games since 87. Not too many teams can say that.

It's the lack of postseason success outside of the Superbowl in 2009, that makes N.O seem less good than they actually have been.
The first 20 years of the franchise didn't do us any favors in making us look respectable. Until the Mora years, the Saints were the very definition of 'laughingstock' to the rest of the league and the fans. With little exception, it's best just to just imagine that the Saints didn't begin until 1987. :hihi:

This was a good post. It’s not often we look at the big picture, at the arc of our team’s history and of our own fandom.

Yeah, the Saints' record from 1967-1986 is 90-196-5. More than double the amount of losses than wins. No winning seasons, only one non-losing season: 8-8 in 1979, right before the wheels fell off for the 1-15 1980 season.

Bum Phillips certainly laid some of the groundwork with some really excellent drafts in the early 80s, but the Saints truly became a completely different team when Benson, Finks, and Mora took over the reins.

It’s wild to me that the Saints have played in 23 postseason games since 1987.

when I was a kid, it seemed like making the playoffs was an impossibility.

Heck, we’ve won 10 postseasons games since 2000.

All of that is just bonkers to me as a lifelong saints fan.

Yeah, for the long time old fans, there was nothing like 1987, with the first winning season and first playoff game. That was like a giant weight lifted off of you. I was at the first playoff game in 1987 and the Super Bowl. They were both monumental events. When the team came out on the field for the playoff game in 1987....it was a whole different world. And years later, when Porter got the pick six, I think I jumped five feet high in the stands.

I doubt I will see the Saints over .500 as a franchise. Just get to the Super Bowl again....and win it again!

30 years ago I would have said it’s impossible that it’s too far gone .

But since 1987 they have been chipping away nicely

403-460-5

57 games under 500

Can they pull that off in the next 20 years ?
I doubt it... simply for the fact that would be 20 straight years of averaging a 10 - 7 record.

That's a steep hill to climb.

It takes other franchises slipping from their records. So as long as Jerry Jones is alive and Atlanta has a team, there's always a chance.

It’s not impossible they reach it within the decade or so.
