Saints up 15-14. It seems they wanted the 2 points in case KC gets a FG. It's the beginning if the third quarter, there will be more scoring than just a FG coming in the third and fourth quarters. They made up for the one point by going for a 2 point conversion themselves. They may have gone for 2 on each following TD since the Saints would have been up 16-14. But there was too much time left in the game to go for two at that point.

I wholly agree with the call there. No brainer for me. I missed that part of the game, what play did we run to attempt it? Tyia.
Up one you go for 2, to make it a fg game.

I think you generally shouldn't start chasing points at the beginning of the third quarter unless you're down big. There's still too much time left for that whole "one point makes the difference" thing to play out. Take your "free" one point and move along. I think Payton was trying to show that we were taking over the game and ready to start rolling. He makes those gut calls sometimes. I didn't agree with the decision, but I certainly would have been happy about it if we had converted.

Fair points.

I hated the call. Towards the end of the game great. Early in the 3rd quarter is too early to make that decision. You don’t know if you’re going to need the 2 or if you’ll miss the 1 you lost more. That point was proven yesterday when we needed 10 to tie late in the 4th. Had we made the 1 point, 10 would’ve won it for us.

Way too early for an attempt. Highly unnecessary

I was thinking about this too, but came to the conclusion it didn't matter if we made it or not. Being ahead by 1 or 2 points is no different, right? Like at the end, it doesn't matter if we had 1 or 2 additional points, it still wouldn't have been enough to win.

I don't know. Going for two
always confuses me unless it's obvious a team needs 8 pts to tie.

I always believed you never go for 2 until its absolutely necessary but coaches swear by their little charts that tell them when to go for 2. If you make it, all is good but when you miss it now you seem to be chasing that point you could have had.

No reason, Payton got confused or had a brain fart. He should have not gone for the 2 point conversion.

If it works, nobody even brings it up.

If we're outlining various reasons for the loss, put that one way down the list somewhere.
