Don't understand the reasoning behind the two point conversion (1 Viewer)

Kamara was wide open and would have walked in if Brees had seen him early enough.
I held my arms in the air and was about to celebrate. That was a weird one.

Those are two points that got away. And 5 points got away from the poor attempt at recovering a fumble.

It was a little early in the game, but I didn't really mind the decision. Being a field goal ahead vs being a point ahead is always a plus. Ironically, though, we would have still lost by one point had we converted.

I didn't mine going for 2...I just hated the play call. Not many people gonna stop Taysom or Kamara on that play.

I wholly agree with the call there. No brainer for me. I missed that part of the game, what play did we run to attempt it? Tyia.
Up one you go for 2, to make it a fg game.
Only time you go for two, is when it gives you a one score or two score lead in the 4th qtr. Or, it puts you within 1 score of tying the game in the 4th qtr.

YOU DO NOT CHASE POINTS BEFORE THE 4th QTR., because you are going to get the ball back a number of times, before the end of the game. It was flat out DUMB! And to boot, Payton has done this before and it has cost him. He NEVER learns from previous mistakes/decisions he has made! And THAT is one of his bad traits, due to his ego.

Making a 2pt conversion is essentially scoring back to back touchdowns! Very difficult to do in the NFL.

The extra points are no longer free though. Outside of the first quarter I have zero issues with going for 2 so long as it makes sense like it did yesterday.
I think the mathematics of it have changed certainly since the XP's were moved back, but kickers have adjusted and don't last very long if they can't consistently make that kick. I know Payton is primarily concerned with moments in the game and making statements. I felt like we weren't doing very well in short-yardage situations at that point in the game, so I personally was against it, but I wasn't hot under the collar about it or anything. It was more of a "I don't think that's the right thing to do here, but I hope we make it" kind of feeling.
