Don't understand the reasoning behind the two point conversion (3 Viewers)

I think you generally shouldn't start chasing points at the beginning of the third quarter unless you're down big. There's still too much time left for that whole "one point makes the difference" thing to play out. Take your "free" one point and move along. I think Payton was trying to show that we were taking over the game and ready to start rolling. He makes those gut calls sometimes. I didn't agree with the decision, but I certainly would have been happy about it if we had converted.
This has been my position for YEARS. In the NFL, points are at a premium, take the 1pt XPA and don't start chasing 2pt conversions unless it's LATE in the 4th and you NEED to do so.

Lead by 1 or lead by 2, it really dosnt matter a fg takes the lead. He went for the conversion to lead by a fg that way all KC could do with a fg was tie.

The only mistake was having Drew under center in that situation. I'd take Taysom in that spot. It just gives you more options and chance for success.

If two point conversion had been converted, the Saints on thier last scoring TD drive would have only been down by 8 instead of 10 (32-24) Saints would have made score 32-30 after scoring TD instead of 32-28 for a chance to tie game on another two point coversion

It was too early to be worried about that. So say we don't get the 2, and we didn't. and late in the game we are down by 4 instead of 3, where a FG would tie it but you now need a touchdown.

Saints up 15-14. It seems they wanted the 2 points in case KC gets a FG. It's the beginning if the third quarter, there will be more scoring than just a FG coming in the third and fourth quarters. They made up for the one point by going for a 2 point conversion themselves. They may have gone for 2 on each following TD since the Saints would have been up 16-14. But there was too much time left in the game to go for two at that point.
You never go for 2 that early in the game.

You can't predict what's going to happen.

If we play it out, it's 16-14, then KC takes a 28-16 lead, then we close it to 28-23.

They kick a FG to make it 31-23.

Now the last TD potentially ties it with a 2 point conversion.

That's how you do it.

Before they moved the XP back, I would say never go for 2 until under 10 minutes.

Now its a little bit of a closer call, especially against the best offense in the league. I just wish Drew got it to AK in the flat.

What funny is that they thought they could ever force a FG attempt.

The reason why he should gone for 1 is because he would forced KC to go for two and that could have made a difference if they did not convert.

The extra points are no longer free though. Outside of the first quarter I have zero issues with going for 2 so long as it makes sense like it did yesterday.

The game was decided by 3 points not 1, If you feel your odds are good at the 2-point conversion there is no reason not to go for it earlier as opposed to later (where the score differential warrants it). This holds true even when you expect both teams to keep scoring at pace.

When you go for it early you can still go for it again if a new situation warrants it. What you cant do is decide to go back and go for it in the first half when you are in the second half.
