He's about the same time as Marcus.... His 20 yard shuttle is slower. So, he'll probably be a less rangy Williams.

I’ve seen lots of Kyle Hamilton, and as prospects he is as good as it gets at safety. He truly is an Eric Berry/Sean Taylor like prospect. He’s a better prospect than both Adams/James. Don’t perseverate on the combine numbers…he’s the most rangy safety I have seen in years coming into the draft. He's about the same time as Marcus.... His 20 yard shuttle is slower. Have you watched the man play? Just curious.Wouldn't take a S in the 1st round, and athletically he isn't a transcendant talent like say an Isaiah Simmons or Jeremy Chinn who his body type compares to. Both of them lit up the combine...his was just good. The close to a 4.6 40 is what's causing him to slide.
I'd stay away but me saying that means he'll get drafted by us and I'll cry
I'm talking about athleticism range. His IQ range is exceptional. He don't need elite athleticism because he doesn't bite hard on the wrong side of the field and have to pivot. I encourage you to watch him. The guy is phenomenal. Frankly, he’s probably the best football player in the draft if people were drafting in spite of position.I have not but he doesn't look like a good paint defender. He's a drag down tackler (uses his length to coral the legs of ball carriers) and his frame doens't lend well to him battling it out as a SS with TE's. He wasn't even used that way in coverage and plays more like a FS/Robber than a SS despite having a larger athletic profile.
In 2016 Karl Joseph went #14
In 2017 Jamal Adams went #6
In 2018 Minkah Fitzpatrick went #18
In 2019 Darnell Savage went #21
In 2020 Xavier McKinney went #35
In 2021 Jevon Holland went #35
None of the top rated safeties in mainstream went on to play like top safeties and while Fitzpatrick had a couple good seasons following a trade to Steelers he's only got 12int's his career.
Recent trend suggest the NFL is finally catching up that you don't have to draft a Safety round one to find a good one. They are all over the draft and it's not really a premium position at that.
I'd be fine w/ Hamilton but not as a trade up prospect, that would disappoint me.

I think the combine comparisons are incredibly unfair. These are football players. Given what I saw Hamilton do at Notre Dame, being a consensous top 5 guy throughout the entire offseason, there's no chance I'm letting a 40 time sway what I see on the football field. The guy has virtually no weakness to his game on the football field. He's got range, tremendous ball skills, sound tackler and big hitter. Can play FS or SS. Has the length to cover TEs.
I've seen this story before, where a tremendous college football player falls because of a 40 time, and in 4 years there's an article about all of the teams that passed up on them for combine stars.
I'm not advocating an aggressive trade up for him, but if by some miracle he falls to us or even into the mid teens there's no question that you go get the guy.
Let him slip to us
Man... We need an extra1st round picks... Need a WR/S/OT badly. Can Payton unretire so we can trade him.You sure? You just said that you'd cry if he was drafted by us
I think it's a moot point because I still think he's going top 5, or top 10 at worst. I don't think the slide is justifiable. There's no shot a unanimous top 5 guy is taking that big of a dive from a 40 time.
I would because I'm not in love w/ the prospect but I typically my logic overrules my emotion and if he slid to us it would be a logical pick. Wouldn't complain about it.You sure? You just said that you'd cry if he was drafted by us

I am not fond of trying to catch a falling knife. Especially a safety w/ a slow 40 time. There much safer picks at FS in the 2nd and 3rd round.
Anyone remember 6'3 230 lbs Taylor "the next Sean Taylor" Mays? He ran a 4.24 40 that didn't translate on the field & was a disappointment everywhere he went. I don't know anything at all about this young man named Kyle Hamilton. But I would venture to say Game tape trumps 40 time every time. He's a top 5 player in this draft. There are no safer picks at safety than this young man. High floor, high ceiling. He can literally do everything exceptionally well at both safety position. Forget the 40 time. If he's there it's not even a question. He won't be there though, I still think he's going top 10 at worst, likely even still top 5. He's a generational talent at the safety position.
